I hope that's true, I just had my BI expire because I've been chilling in TSU since 11/14/2008!

Also, just curious if anyone wants to chime in about the new 300 officers to be hired for FY 2011 and if anyone else is thinking what I am... that some of those officers are likely to be CBPO Agriculture Specialists???

Anyone have or know where to obtain a confirmed list of FLETC classes for CBPOs?

Even if it isn't my GEO, I am desperately hoping to hear someone say that they got the call on here soon.

      Trying to remain optomistic... somehow.
Typically, people spend 2-4 weeks at their port before going to training. It's far from a requirement though; there is no reason management couldn't schedule people to move within days. The 4 week pre-academy came about for the most part because people were hiring on for hard-to-fill ports, shipping out within days and then returning from training only to resign. 4 weeks of pre-academy came about as a measure to weed out the uncommitted before spending 10's of thousands training them.

CBPAS are not CBPOs. Different job series, different retirement, different training, different responsibilities, etc. While they might be hiring more CBPASs in 2011, none of them will be hired to do CBPO work.

I've never seen a list of CBPI classes that's been released to the public. Even if you had a list, with the way the training folk love canceling classes/modifying classes/adding classes at the last minute, unless you had access to a weekly updated list it probably wouldn't stay accurate all that long.

You will forgive me if I do not name names, or give you my work address....I will say that I know what I am talking about on this one.

I don't need names and addresses. I'm not from OPM. Haha.

Everyone appreciates the input of the forum elders, no doubt about it. I certainly don't think you'd try to mislead anyone. I just like to know where is info is coming from. Guess I will have to trust you on this one.

            Biggdawgdaddy,

Any chance you have any connections with ICE? They have been taking forever to start my B/I (as well as all the others in my batch) (it's been almost 4 months now), normally I wouldn't be concerned but they originally said we would EOD within 6-8 weeks of EQIP.

And yes, I know I should have learned my lesson with CBP, 60-90 days after TSU to EOD. Ha, it's such a joke that I could cry.

This position is with the Law Enforcement Support Center and from what I was told, is not affected by the ICE freeze (no pun intended)...

I don’t think lamplighter was trying to bust chops. It’s just that we’re all anxious for the next ship to come in to ship us out, since the last hiring ship has sailed. I’m sure you know there are people here, who may or may not work for CBP, who enjoy messing with the “recruits” for their own entertainment.

From my dealings with CBP officers, they, for the most part, enjoy their jobs. They speak very highly of it, and really do care about the future generation of CBPOs. They have all encouraged me not to give up and get discouraged, even if they could not provide any insight about hiring. This has been greatly appreciated. But when it comes to an internet forum, we don’t always know who speaks the truth. Bigdawg, it really is impossible to know if you are speaking the truth (I hope you are, and can see the logic in your posts). But if your words are true, I greatly appreciate your insight. But I and the rest of us have been let down way too many times here by false claims of hope, even if posted with good intents. I’m just going to continue to live my unemployed life, and to move on with applying to other agencies in the meantime… I hope you understand and take no offense.

                • Ok guys, I am not going to blow smoke up your skirt on anything. We have been told to "do more with less". The administrations first thing we were asked to do was suggest ways to cut costs, so don't hold your breath on hiring to start soon.

Classes are now running just majority Southwest Border; travel is down, and so is importing so we are able to make do with current staffing in most areas.

All that "change" is starting to kick in, and things are not going to move until we get the new direction set. As for backgrounds, they are trying to figure out how to save money on these. Don't give up your day job!!

                        Impressive.

CBP minimums for hiring are roughly equivalent with many if not most other federal jobs. If that translates to "no skills" in your book, then there are plenty of federal positions that'll fit that bill.

Make up your mind, do you want the truth or do you wish to be coddled? I fail to see how hiring a whiner would save money....diapers are expensive.

I did not attack you Mr. Kmart, I only gave the information that I knew and tried to present it in what I thought was an un offensive way. Sorry I offended you....Here is a straw: SUCK IT UP.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.
