I more or less feel that part of the fallout over the lastest attack will be a push to extend more pre-clearance, both domestically and abroad. If it happens, more pre-clearance likely means more hiring...especially for people like you looking to go to major airports.

I'm glad that nobody got hurt, but if it gets out that this stuff is happening coupled with a near hiring freeze, we might be in good shape. Even though one has very little to do with the other, people may put 2 and 1 together and come out with 2 - to our benefit.

Yeah...most ports have guys like Hunt/Escape/Dajob. That doesn't make them right though.

Obviously they have an axe to grind...and they're spouting every half-truth and deception in a effort to denigrate OFO.

If a person doesn't like the job...leave. Quietly...and without burning the agency and your coworkers along the way. It does no good to $%^& in everyones' cornflakes on the way out...especially as most seem to use their CBP experience to boost their resumes and bump themselves into different, "better" fed/state/local LEO jobs.

Let them steam here. People have to be able to steam somewhere and an anonymous forum seems to be the place to do it, but it is pretty pathetic that someone would hate their jobs so much and stay there. It isn't good for them.

A job announcement comes out on USAJOBS and it is filled. IIRC it is limited to status agency employees, serving in GS-11 positions. That would make more openings here in the US that would need to be filled, typically by new hires.

I'm really not sure. I'd have to look into it.

As far as this particular conversation goes, when I spoke of 'pre-clearance' I was using the term in a very broad sense...more or less as in anything they can do to 'pre-clear' flights before they land in the US. That, of course, would include using US-based people to run computer queries on passenger manifests and the like on US-bound flights in the air or on the ground in foreign ports of departure.

I'm sure a lot of you guys caught Meet the Press on Sunday morning. I've gotta say that when Secretary Napolitano mentioned that beefing up TSA and CBP airport security is now the #1 priority of DHS it was truly music to my ears.

Who knows what the new year could bring? Chins up, everyone.

Just called TSU and there is no academy set for Jan 2010. They should be calling after the holidays to start a new class for the end of Jan 2010. The last class to start up was in the beginning of Dec 2009, all for the southern border.

I'm in Mich and there are six differant location's that i know of for CBPO's, what could be taking so long? I've also heard that Mich has a high turn over rate, so... why is just the southern border getting people??

I emailed TSU to ask about vacancies and about how may people were in front of me for my District (Pennsylvania).

He said Pennsylvania has no vacancies at this time, and they can not determine exactly what the TSU order is for each district. When they get a vacanacy for a District, the computer automatically generates who has been waiting in that District the longest and he/she will be contacted first.

Are you telling me Pennsylvania has ZERO vacancies...nobody fired, retired, or extra positions approved for fill????

This Video at about 2:24 shows pictures of what can only be CBPO's apprehending the suspect Abdulmutallab. Can anyone confirm that the patches on the arms are DHS and the badges are CBP?

Didn't see the video, but CBPOs were the first to take custody.

That's a crappy photo...but at least 3 of those Officers are CBPO's.

As Qix said, the officer escorting him off the plane is a CBPO.

All look to be journeyman 11's. There's no way to tell if they're part of AT-CET, CTRT or another team.
