  • CBP is in the news...

That car is one of ours.

For you people going to airports...this might be your wake up call. If you've been buying into all the previous crap about airport Officers not needing to be fit, of airport CBPO's being "clerks with guns" who work in a "secure" or "sterile" or "controlled" environment, take a long, hard look here. These terrorists could have just as easily decided to have his bomb go off while waiting in one of our lines.

Next time, maybe they will. Maybe next time, the bomb will go off as planned.

    • This is a good read, and may alay some of the fear that you have all been forgotten.

      http://www.federaltimes.com/article/...53/PERSONNEL02

They are trying to go one step farther than "One Face at the Border", making it one hiring process for DHS. This means that if they are converting to this hiring process, and it will SLOOWW DOOWWNNNN till fully converted. So look forward to 2012, when they will realize they are thousands behind and start pushing them through like cattle again!
Life is what happens while you are waiting for something better to come along.

      • The photos on the plane actually show the suspect being placed in custody by CBP officers.

I saw that myself on NBC Nightly News. The suspect was clearly being escorted by CBP officers.

On a few occassions I have seen Fams ,FBI, Ice, Airport police take a CPO [after the supervisior approved] aboard a plane for something other then an inspection. I was impressed by the pictures but would caution that I am sure they were out of the picture. I cannot wait get more details.
The escorting of the subject off the plane is SOP for CBP. It was an international arrival, therefore it was CBP's animal so to speak. If this were to happen on a domestic flight (and the guy was still a foreign national) CBP would've been no where near that.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing. However EscapeCBP is right about 1 thing. The average line officer would not likely be involved with any enforcement ops for that situation. But depending on port SOP if you are a part of an enforcement team (CTR, ATCET, Rover Team) you actually may be involved. I am not familiar with sop for Detroit. In the air the plane belongs to FBI. Once on the ground it belongs to CBP until cleared.

Ultimately, most of those people will likely end up elsewhere. For now though they're sitting in TSU looking just as dedicated to eventually becoming a CBPO as the guy "bleeding blue" over the chance of being hired on at this job.

Anybody interested in law enforcement has multiple applications in CBP is the last choice.
The economy will recover and anyone with minium skills will find a job they will drop out of here.
TURN OVER will continue as long as real LEO jobs present those stuck here will continue to head out as they get them
The majority of CBP are paper pushers/customer service reps but they get better Goverment jobs too
with weekends off, holidays off etc .no gun belt, so they leave also

SO KEEP the HOPE ALIVE . YOU WILL GET HIRED. The Fed process is slow and many times makes NO SENSE AT ALL.

Let me correct you, this should read "The majority of CBPOs........."
You know what CBP stands for right?

Did my job, considerable enforcement..., seized, arrested my share. Do not know what you do...., hope your fighting crime and saving the world!

Well I'll start by saying thank you for you service. That being said, there are guys at every port that feel the same as HTJ or escapecbp. I know we all have our bad days, but for some that day never seems to end. If you get stuck on primary life in CBP can suck. I thought I was gonna go crazy until I got on a team that does alot of enforcement activity. This job is not for everybody. If you are a high speed guy I'd say go BP, or try out for SRT. But if you pay your dues on primary and get to a team you're golden. The agency has its share of problems, but what agency doesn't. As I've said before we get all kinds of people from COs, POs, secret service UD, PFPA, Park Police, military police, coast gaurd, You name it. This job will be what you make of it if you're willing to put in the time and effort.

                              • Yeah...most ports have guys like Hunt/Escape/Dajob. That doesn't make them right though.

Obviously they have an axe to grind...and they're spouting every half-truth and deception in a effort to denigrate OFO.

If a person doesn't like the job...leave. Quietly...and without burning the agency and your coworkers along the way. It does no good to $%^& in everyones' cornflakes on the way out...especially as most seem to use their CBP experience to boost their resumes and bump themselves into different, "better" fed/state/local LEO jobs.
