I'll be going to OCS (Officer Candidate School), I'm hoping I get this (CBPO) before I have to commit to an OCS program (State or Federal). I'm not young and single, and the isolation from the world the ARMY requires is a bit hard on those with families especially if you have little ones and another on the way!...
I simply hope that this frustrating process with IA is over and done with already!

If I could get Accelerated OCS and the Officer Ascension Bonus, I'd be in. Attending BCT, OCS and FLETC in the same year (potentially) won't be easy on the wife, let alone if I get deployed, but I'm getting frustrated with the CBPO/Border Patrol Agent process and am questioning if I will EOD in FY2010, or Calendar year 2010 for that matter.

**EDIT: I was not promised, nor am I owed or entitled to, a career with CBP. However, I am still frustrated that hiring has slowed to a trickle compared to last year.

Changing subjects, this is really sad news about an Officer that had been on the job for a couple of months in Tecate, CA (just east of San Diego). What a tragedy.

I heard from a Supervisor at a SD POE that many rookie CBPO arrive from FLETC and they only last about one or two weeks on the job not sure if its just SD location or other POE. Is there a high turn over rate for newbies? If so, why? Im blown away why these people waste their time going to FLETC and once they arrive at the real job they just quit.
Im sure SD has the same problems that MT had with retention. You are in the middle of nowhere, you are paying twice what you did for everything from gas to milk. Unless you are from the area you do not like the cold (colder than a well diggers butt). I think that is why we went to the choose your port thing, less culture shock, more likely to stick around.

RIP Agent Areaga. My condolences to her family and friends.

Looking at that pic., I can tell that it is not a regular CBP shoulder patch she is wearing on her uniform, by the cut of the edge of the patch?

What patch is that?, is it a specific patch from FLETC or Tecate POE?

That is a CBP shoulder patch. It's the new OFO patch. All new uniforms include the OFO patch on the left shoulder.

This is really awful. Really breaks my heart - especially since there are kids involved.

Well not really...it actually appears to be a pin. I doubt it's legitimate, but it's a fairly good knockoff. It's more or less accurate.

I almost wish you didn't show me the link to that story. Now I want to break something. I hope no more people are injured and this scum bag ends up in a body bag. Alright, I'm going to the gym.

I think it's far more likely that you'll see a DHS OAM break away from CBP...OAM needs to get away from the green machine and has very little reason to be in the same organization as OFO.
