Congrats tarmacevo! Nice to see some Michigan love even if said love must take place in another state. Thek9.....funny thing is, when I applied for this job, I had a ponytail to my shoulder blades. I cut it off, but now its been so long that I almost have one back.

I'll wait closer to the time frame and suck up the additional last minute charges if I'm not working for CBP :/ I'm sure hiring will pick up (even if it's only a few people... can't get much worse then it is right now!) over the course of the next few months. I just don't think my geo region will be hiring anytime soon. Good thing I have a decent job. Anyone else in a similar situation? This is frustrating. I just wish they'd tell me "You have to wait another year before we hire you" rather then wait day to day.
If MHC calls you with the offer before your trip, you will have the option of deferment. They would need documentation (itinerary, plane tickets, etc.) before they place your file in deferment.

I would recommend Shelby, you are busy enough and Shelby is a good place to live. Malta is smaller and not on a major highway. If you want more info P.M me.

Welcome to CBP, dress warm. Oh and if you don't hunt take it up, that is why people live in Montana.

And let me tell you, I was grilled about that during my background for BOP & CBP. We'll see. Fingers crossed. I have a highest TSU date on this forum listing. I would hope for a call in the next 6 months!!!

Realistically, you're looking at Champlain or A-bay...most likely and in that order. Ogdensburg, Massena and Trout River are lesser options, although Massena just got a new port this year and were looking to hire new hires awhile back...they might still be looking for more people. Syracuse is small and coveted. Expect not to be offered it. Albany is even smaller and more coveted.

Congrats on the call... of the two, I'd choose Shelby, but only because I've heard of it. ;-)

              Good luck to you!

The only reason for the reduction is because, as per the new administration's request, more money is being pumped into hiring and training Border Patrol agents. I can't complain about that too much. BP agents are awesome. Haha.
The amount of new CBPOs hired and the number of classes at FLETC are directly tied so I'm not sure if you misunderstood what this person was saying or they don't know what they're talking about. When there are new hires, they go to FLETC. Sounds like a typical bureaucrat answer. A whole lot of words but not really anything sensical.

Fair enough, truth is that my dream job is really the Immigration Officer (or Adjudication's/Immigration Services Officer) job. But at this point I've learned that the government prefers internal hires for some reason or another. I am more than qualified for the position but have had little success in the past getting there. So I am prepared to take whatever I can at this point and work my way there.

As for the LES position, I think it would be fun because it does involve immigration work and because with my experience I am hoping to get into the section that deals with issuing detainers and determining an alien's immigration status.

They may seem pretty different but they are all connected in some way or sense.

Yeah, I probably should clarify a little bit. He explained that the amount of people in the TSU phase is propotional to the amount of classes they have scheduled. That is why they have not scheduled any new CBP tests in the near future. So, for our purposes, if you are in TSU then you don't have a whole lot to worry about. It is just a matter of time. I hope that explains it a little better.

I feel pretty good about what this guy had to say. I like to think I am a pretty good judge of character and I can usually smell BS from a mile away. As my father says "you can't sh*t a sh*tter."

My friend who referred me to him for answers said has been with CBP/INS for nearly 20 years. I asked for total honesty and he had pretty sensible answers to all my questions. I dont think he had any real reason to be dishonest or sugarcoat.

FDNS work is pretty cool. I was an FDNS clerk during college. Have you thought about being an ICE special agent? It might make for a good way to reconcile your two ambitions.

I know you're BP but this applies to CBP as well. If you turn down an offer in hopes of getting a different location, you pretty much took yourself out of the running for the position and your name will be taken out of the hiring pool. Your geographical location is a preference. In the end, it's all about the needs of Uncle Sugar. To the government, we're just a number to fill a vacancy. Considering the number of people waiting in TSU, MHC has plenty of people who will jump for your spot, if you so happen to foolishly turn it down.

Lauderdale / Port Everglades or will I only be considered for Miami (I believe this is the case)? I tested in August, 2008 and I'm definitely losing my patience. The only information that I have gotten from the hiring center is that they haven't hired anybody for my geo location since January, 2009. Just wondering how many people could possibly be ahead of me in TSU. Any guesses?

oh well, gotta go check all 16 of my fantasy football teams, have way too much time on my hands.
Ha, FTL/Everglades would be great, I could ride my bicycle to work every morning. I think you would have to pick "Florida other" to get the Everglades, and if I remember correctly its a pretty small port with not too much activity. The majority of the ships that come in/out are oil containers. Not much to inspect on those..
