yeah, just wishful thinking. That would be expensive for 25,000 officers. Just thought certain positions may get them.

P.S. I've interviewed with 3 local PD's and every time I get a letter telling me thanks but no thanks. (I scored a 93 out of 100 on my civil service exam and speak chinese fluently)

anyone have advice or want to share their experiences with the military?
Should I just wait it out?
Well it definitely is a faster process than this. You still need a BI for security clearance, but you'll just get a temporary one and get to sign on, while they work on it. I was active duty air force for 4 years and it was a great experience. I know Security Police are always in high demand and get alot of TDY's. Dont quote me on this but they might even be getting enlistment bonuses for that career field right now. Go talk to a recruiter, it cant hurt.
        Good Luck!

For DSS, if stuff were to go down in China, I hate to be on the frontline. Especially with 1 billion guns pointing at you. On the other hand, if we continue to borrow money, they don't have incentive to attack us because they want theire money back. So mostly safe.

If you want to put your chinese to good use, I highly recommend jump to WA Northern Border. Vancouver, BC is a hot spot of Asian tourism, especially Chinese.

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't my friend said there has been plenty of over time and people were even being mandated to work over time so who knows. Anyways,I booked my ticket today for my vacation and when I get back I better not be in any 1hr plus long lines in immigration like earlier this year since they are supposedly now fully staff or else I will be dropping a line in the suggestion box

I would suggest dropping a line in the suggeston box regardless if the line is long!! Couldnt hurt!! The higher ups that read it might think they do need more help!! Better yet, rally everyone thats standing in line next to you to do so, too. Hey, the more the merrier!! Hehe!!!

Here's something else to check out... it's a position with the US Foreign Service as a Diplomatic Courrier. Yeah, it involves a lot of flying but basically you escort and safeguard diplomatic pouches and shipments around the world along with some other stuff. You only need a 2 year degree... get great benefits... starting pay is the same or a bit better as CBP. Some of us might be interested, others not... but something to consider. The announcement closes on the 29th so check it out.

                http://careers.state.gov/specialist/...s/dipcour.html

It hasn't been open since 2006.

Below is a letter sent out recently by Border Patrol to their applicants:

                        October 16, 2009

                        Dear Applicant:

The purpose of this email is to inform you of changes related to the Border Patrol Agent position for which you have received a conditional offer of employment with U.S. Customs and Border Protection. You have already successfully completed the pre-employment requirements and are waiting to be contacted with a firm offer of location, reporting date and assignment to a Border Patrol Academy class.

During your training at the BP Academy, you will be expected to fully participate in a number of vigorous training activities. These activities will include: Arrest Techniques training, Defensive Tactics training, Collapsible Straight Baton training and daily physical conditioning. Physical conditioning is very intense, and includes Muscular Endurance Training, Mobility Training, Strength Training and runs of varying speeds and distances. These physical training activities will be conducted both indoors, in state of the art athletic facilities, and outdoors on fields, tracks and roadways. Often times, the training is conducted under hot and humid conditions.

In an effort to better prepare you to be successful in performing your duties, a second fitness test (PFT2) has been developed. You may be scheduled to take the PFT2 approximately 30 days prior to your entrance on duty. The PFT2 will take place at the Headquarters office of the Border Patrol Sector located closest to your current mailing address. You will be responsible for getting yourself to and from the PFT2. Any expenses incurred in doing that will be your responsibility.

The fitness test will consist of:

                        (1) 220 yard run - must be completed in 46 seconds or less
                        (2) Sit-ups – 25 proper form must be completed in one minute or less
                        (3) Push ups – 20 proper form must be completed in one minute or less
                        (4) 1.5 mile run - must be completed in 15 minutes or less

If you do not successfully pass the PFT2, your conditional offer of employment will be withdrawn and you will not continue in the hiring process.

We urge you to take advantage of the time you have while waiting to be contacted to ensure that you get in shape and stay in shape - regardless of your current level of conditioning - so that you will be adequately prepared for the rigorous fitness program at the Academy.

You will be receiving more information on the PFT2 as it becomes available.

Thank you for your continued interest in employment with Customs and Border Protection.

                        Sincerely,

                        Gwen Wild

This is just my opinion, but there's probably the same or a similar type letter in the works for OFO. You might want to heed it's advice and start to prepare yourself to pass those standards today, just in case this is dropped on you...4, 6 or 12 months from now.
Are you sure about the run time? I thought it was 13min. where did you get your info. Thanks

At least they are trying to save money by testing someone before they get to academy on the government check only to fail. And if the person fails, at least they will not have quit their current job yet. Beats coming back having failed and unemployed! Uncle Sam is always slow to figure things out, but he does eventually.

but its now closed, so you'll have to wait for the next announcement to take the online test which is a written essay you must write in 15-20 minutes (at least 200 words on the topic they give you) and then its followed by 40-50 multiple choice questions on various topics.

I applied for it and haven't heard back yet, (surprise, surprise) about my score on the essay.
