  • Does anyone know anything about recruiting for CBP Special Response Teams (not BORTAC)? It's something I am interested in doing and I know little about the selection process or organization. Does geographic location have an SRT?

Any info would be much appreciated.

This you will have to wait until you reach 11, as I understand it, there is no recruiting for this position.

11? Intense. Does every geographic location have an SRT?

I have a friend that just went through SRT training, he's a GS-11, always volunteering for OT or whatever the port needed done... In other words a squared away highly motivated individual!
As to which POE's have SRT units that would be better answered by Merlin or KC12.

            • I hear next year's classes have been cut in half due to the economy. Can anyone confirm?

It would make sense, but I can't confirm.

As per the class schedule available at HonorFirst.com, the Border Patrol has scheduled about half as many classes for FY2010 when compared to FY2009. Whether or not this is any indication of the scheduling for CBPO classes, I have no idea and lean towards probably not. Several pages back someone else says something about over 100 classes (Page 654), so who knows?

                  • Nevermind
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

For the intelectually challenged: If the government screws the people enough, it is the right and responsibility of the people to revolt and form a new government.

Yes I did. There wasn't an empty seat in the room. There were too many applicants present to take the test that day, so they asked people to come back the next day and let a few people who had driven as much as 5 hrs to get there take the test that day. They only had 180 test booklets and over 200 people showed up.

One of the proctors said that in all the years that he's been working, he had never seen that before.

If it wasn't for having eye surgery and getting a NOPA, I think I would've been hired by now.

Yeah, ever since I saw the TSA Gangstaz video, I wouldn't admit it either:

When I took my written test in Miami for CBP there were a few guys in TSA uniforms taking it. From what I recall the TSA pay is much lower than CBP.

You must be a GS 11 with a good record. The only way you can apply for it is through your port. There are annoucements sent throughout CBP and if you're interested, you must go through your chain of command. It's no easy training either, high failure rate. Not all ports have SRT. The bigger ones do.
