They will do more than just call your job. They actually go there. My BI went to the PD looked at my file, talked to my Sgt's and my references. Afterwards he just hung out at the station and as people walked by he randomly picked people and asked them about me. People who I didn't list on my app. When my friend got hired a few years ago, they did the same for her. My BI also went to my previous job as well.

On another note, does anyone know if the tests at FELTC are the same type questions like the initial exam?

They'll hand out new TO's when they need to hand out new TO's.

If they do hand out new TO's, they'll be handing them out from all open announcements...assuming that they haven't reach the new level in the old announcements already. The biggest factor in issuing new TO's is the length of time since the last announcement. If there's a announcement every 6 months, then there's probably only a few draws on each announcement. If there isn't a new announcement in quite a while, then they make multiple draws on the open announcements until they've pretty much "scraped the bottom of the barrel".
My question was that I was previously called for TSU and turned down the offer due to the location in March of this year. I reapplied and used my old score under the last announcement on 4/6/09. Just wondering if they start calling people from TSU if this will then start the ball rolling for TOS. Looking for NYC/JFK location.

      • I agree with ya on that one Sassy. They did the same thing to me.

And i just re-read my last post, im thinking to myself, no kidding they are gonna call before your EOD. lmao

What i was trying to say is, im guessing they are gonna try to schedule ppl to re-take the physical (newly standards) for those who are the ones that are about to ship off to EOD soon.??

I'm a territory manager (fancy name for sales rep) do you think that they will visit that job too? My previous job was partially bought out and under a whole new chain of distribution so they won't get much there... It's not what the people I work with will tell them about me that concerns me, it's how management will take me leaving. Guess we'll just have to see.

Well you either tell your management that you applied for a FLEO position with CBP (DHS) and that they will be contacting them to ask about you, or you tell them nothing... You tell them now or whenever you see your BI go to "in the security office", and you might want to inform them as well that it doesn't mean you will be picked up right away (the process can take a month to a couple of years). It's up to you to tell them or not, or simply withdraw your application if you're so worried about getting fired, this should've been something you though about prior to applying.
                Good Luck!

Trust me, they go EVERYWHERE! My BI told me that they are going to my college and high school to verify my records, etc. For instance, a while ago, I rented a house. The owners live across the United States and they are sending an investigator in that area out to interview them! Go Figure, so if they do that much, they WILL go to your job. The BI when he went to interview my parents talked to the people across the street as I listed them in my app. He then walked the entire block to speak to other neighbors. You have to realize that this is for a security clearance and they are gonna do everything they can to ensure that you deserve it. Like Yoda said, if you dont have a good rapport with your job or you think they will fire you, then you have some decisions to make. Besides, how can a company just assume and expect that you will work for them forever and that its not your right to find a better job!!

It's funny you mention this, I was sortof in the same boat as you in May. I was able to slightly delay them talking to my boss but my circumstances were exceptional. I was out of the country when they wanted to start my B.I. so we did some coordination through email and then when I returned to the U.S. my boss was leaving the country so they couldn't coordinate a way to meet with my boss. In the end, I helped them get a release from my boss overseas and he faxed them a paper regarding my eval from Italy.

I guess my point is that I tried my hardest and thought I was going to get away with it without my boss finding out... they were determined. lol, but my boss surprised me, he wasn't happy about it but he didn't fire me either... at least not yet

                          Good luck

I guess my best answer is that there's probably some truth to that notion, but not a lot.

I'll say it's much like asking if graduation high-school seniors start the ball rolling for kindergärtners to move in. In a way you could argue that, but there's simply way too much disconnect between the levels to draw much useful from it.

They call people from TSU when they need people from TSU.
They issue people TO's when they need to issue more TO's. If anything, I'd say it's more about the #'s of people in between TO's and TSU that influence handing out TO's than anything relating to TSU graduates.

I went through the BI process not to long ago. The investigator told me she needed to speak with someone who supervised me at my current position. She said the only way around it was to call DHS, explain the situation, and request a waiver. She said that does not happen often. Luckily I just switched teams at my current position. My old sup was an ex-military type and was good with having a low key meeting with the BI.
