Each Deo is issued their own weapon just like every deputy. It is issued to them and they are responsible for it and maintaining it.

There are union issues in the works to make the system a little more equal

One more thing is that, maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but according to the announcement, there is no promotion potential.
Unless something has occured policy-wise, DEOs follow the GS-05 to GS-07 progression, in regards to promotions. The top of the mountain would be GS-07 step 10.

I have close friends in the ranks, There are union efforts afoot to change it for the better. INS DEO's became IEA's through union litigation.

DEO's are Deputy U.S. marshals. The way they are used depends on each district.

Union Ligitation? Do explain. IEA's came about when ICE was formed in 2003.

DEO's aren't DUSM's they are Detention Enforcement Officers. Two different jobs with two different job series designations. DUSM's do some of the things that DEO's do within the cellblock, transportation and so forth. But DEO's don't do any of the things that DUSM's do outside of that type of work.

I was speaking on a purely legal framework. DEO's are deputized U.S marshals. They are 6c covered Federal LEO's. They are considered Operational Personnel. many districts treat DEO's as no different as deputies. others do. Its basically all mindset.

So basically you two are saying DEOs has the same arrest authority as DUSM. Normally if this is the case, it will be under the job description as saying making arrest for any felony committed in the presence of xyz

Whats with you and the 6C kick? I am 6C covered and have no arrest power and carry no firearm.

DEO's are sworn as Special Deputy U.S. Marshals. In the districts that issue badges, that is what it says on them. Also the contract Court Security Officers are sworn as SDUSM's. Special Deputy is a worlking title used for those who need some form of Marshal's authority, but are not DUSM's.

DEO's are sworn Federal Law Enforcement Officers. Court security officers work for a private company and have very limited authority.

Deo's have arrest authority both on and off duty. Since court security officers are not federal employees they are private citizens off duty.

the DEO badge is identical to the dusm badge it says "Unites States Marshal" and is issued by HQ to all DEO's

They're not identical. Deo's have a small badge and DUSM's have the bigger badge.
