Was told by a recruiter next processing is sometime in March. Waiting to see if I have to redo processing weekend or straight back into a psych interview.

Hi all, anyone know the answer to W2 for state troopers? Now I was in the academy for about a month and didn’t finish, do I get a W2 in the mail for that time?

You will get a w-2. Even if you worked somewhere officially only for a day, you would still claim taxes.

Why did you leave the academy after one month, if you don’t mind me asking?

I met with my backgrounds investigator and he told me some (November class) recruit got booted for testing positive for Mary Jane, don't be stupid guys.

the academy is intense!!! They will do everything to embarrass you in front of everyone and make your life hell, it’s tough and you need strong supports around you. I kind of regret leaving, I still think man what if I stayed but maybe it wasn’t cut out for me. The weekends when leaving family was hard, they let us call home for 10 seconds during the week and those weren’t helpful! It made me want to leave more. My girlfriend and parents would always cry telling me not to go. I think if I stayed in the academy, I would have been a single man (maybe that says more about my relationship) but it is impossible to make it through the academy if those around you do not want you to stick with it! Miserable Sunday- Friday and then miserable Friday- Sunday because of family? But in the end it’s such an amazing job and the work they do is amazing, long answer but if you want this job DO NOT GIVE UP EVER!!! be ready to get screamed at, embarrassed. It is very possible to lose relationships/friends/maybe even family!! Make sure those around you support you no matter what for these 6 months.

I understand how you feel it was the hardest 6+months of my life I just graduated out of the 211 but it’s the best job in the world I love every time I work. If you’re lucky enough to make it to the academy after going through the background and all of that other stuff then stick it out it is so worth it in the end. I did it with a fiancé and a 3 year old son while my fiancé was pregnant with twins. If I can do it so can you .

No problem. Please take it all with a grain of salt, though. This is my own personal opinion and how I perceive things. Im not a state trooper and base the information off of what I've been told by troopers I work with. The New York State Police is a well-oiled machine that has a method to its madness. Regardless of whether I make it in or not, I wish everyone the best in their pursuits. Law enforcement isn't a sought-after career anymore, and it takes a special person to want to do it and do it for the full 20 years. Take it from a local level guy who has been around for a few years now, pre 2020, and post.
