For those of us that have processed in July and finished our background investigations in august is it safe to assume we have passed everything prior (psych/background) if we received this invitation to medical processing ?

Medical invites are sent out before backgrounds are completed / approved and before DQ letters are sent out. There will be people who go to medical who don't make it. Don't quit your day job yet!

NYCopper thank you for the insight. What time frame do Dq and notice to report to academy letters get sent out? Ie. 3 weeks before the academy?

I think historically it's somewhere around three weeks. Some people barely have the time to give their 2 week notice - depending on where you live, mail, etc.

While im not in the process myself at this point, I can say that this appears to be an expedited hiring process compared to the previous class. We have a guy working for us at my agency who had his processing weekend end of August, is past the polygraph and also recieved an invitation for medical.

Have seen numerous past applicants get DQ letters post medical weekend (found one that got DQd then got invited back for next academy…) such crazy times we live in! Keep the faith! Stay strong.

There were guys (now retired) that helped me when I went through years ago so I'm happy to return the favor. On a side note: bit of a warning for the NYC/Long Island guys -Troop NYC is close to capacity so there's a good chance you'll have to start your career further up north.

Be careful about hoping Troop NYC gets closed? Everyone knows Troop NYC is a joke. When the entire state is undermanned, and recruiting will never recover, having Troopers in NYC is purely political, and serves almost no purpose. Thanks for the advice though...

What will the last medical day be? Is it just another drug test eye test sorta day? I live in western Ny and planned on driving to Albany and back same day. How long is it normally?

They look you and your paperwork over very briefly. I think most are in and out in 2 hours or so depending on the line. But I haven't been part of one in years.

It depends on who is in charge. They're getting more lenient due to covid fear, but no guarantees.

What workouts should we be preparing for. Lots of HIIT and running? And are we aloud to bring supplements like caffeine and protein powder?

I HIGHLY doubt that they'd let you bring caffeine, just because the military doesn't allow it as well. I'm not sure about protein powders thought, maybe they see that as a supplement. I heard running is every other day, and currently, I'm running 3 miles in about 21 minutes comfortably. Not going to train any farther than that.

No caffeine, no protein shakes. You might be able to pack a protein bar per day (so 5). It's lots of HIIT and running. Running generally tops out at 5k every other day. Later in the class you're allowed time to use the gym equipment.

Does anyone know if DQs are sent out all at once, or do they get sent out as each application is reviewed?

I would assume the board would be focusing on August’s background by now and have finished Julys.

P.S, I’ve heard about checking the score/rank is a good way to find out if you’re still in the running or not.

As far as I've seen, DQs are sent out anytime without a predetermined schedule.

Give up trying to time when the DQs come. Nothing is certain until you get the Academy invite, get used to it. It's actually a good lesson for if you get hired: nothing is certain.

DQ’ed then invited back seems very odd, passed over then invited back maybe, but a DQ is something you don’t recover from,…….
