"So the next class is set to begin in April. In the past, I've posted some informational items that may answer some questions, and ease the way into academy life. Below is a partial list of suggestions.

If you know an incumbent Trooper, you may want to review this list with him/her. If not, you can PM me.

                  1) Be punctual. Don't be late for anything. If they say you have to be there by 5:00pm, they don't mean 5:02pm.
                  5:02 pm is late.

                  2) You stay very busy at the academy, especially the first few weeks. It's a very full day. You will need to keep your energy levels up. So bring some snacks to munch on throughout the day. But bring healthy snacks, granola bars, fresh fuit, etc. It's all about team work, so bring some to share with your quadmates too.

                  3) The last thing you want to do is to get caught speeding on your way to the academy. If you have a radar detector, use it. Borrow one if you can.

                  4) The academy is about 6 months long. You are going to want to make yourself comfortable in the dorms. So plan on bringing some small (emphasize small) kitchen appliances, such as a dorm size refrigerator and microwave oven. You don't want two frig's and no mircrowave, so save this step for at least week two, so you can cooridnate with your quadmates. I understand K cups are available in the canteen now, for you coffee drinkers.

                  5) Wall decorations are acceptable, but keep it clean. Sports posters are OK, but no swimsuit models. I'll bet Eli Manning is popular right now, with the NY Giants having won the Super Bowl.

                  6) When moving your stuff into the dorms, there is a flat bed cart you can use for the heavy stuff. There is just one available, so don't hog it. If you need it, just ask the First Sergeant for it. There is also a shopping cart, but it has a squeeky wheel, so it's not used much."

                  Sounds like a trap

                  • Received my packet late last night! See you all March 1st!

                    • I have a few questions regarding the list of items to bring. First off, these shoes, all the packet said was black non patent leather with rubber soles. I went to a redwing dealer near me and be wanted 180$ for a pair, that seemed a little bit pricey. Does it matter what brand they are and also the place I went had a pair fitting the description but had a stitch like design running across the top edge of the shoe. Would something like that be okay? I've been looking around for a good pair of shoes but have found nothing yet. Also in the packet it mentioned a thick gray running suit, well there are many types of grays, do they want us all in dark gray or light gray? I do not want to be the one that shows up in the off color an get spotlighted for it. The lost of things to bring wasn't that specific but I think it's more specific than what we think. All my fellow Marines will know what I'm talking about when it comes to all of us looking the same. Also has anyone, from troop D area, received an orientation invite from the recruiter yet?

I would not take any of the advise from above other than be there closer towards 5 than 8.

                        • I feel like light gray will be the shade of choice. I wouldn't get the shoe with a design. 180$ is a lot. Mine were only 75$. Mens are over priced but this was cheapest one I could find. http://www.redwingshoes.com/red-wing...s-oxford-black

                          • What time is everyone planning to arrive?

I will be there at 4:59 and pull in at 5:00 on the dot.

                            • I will be there at 4:45. Early is on time and on time is late. Anyone from Long Island get the orientation email today?

                              • Nunn Bush or Bates makes comfortable oxfords for around $60. Don't spend too much, I haven't worn mine since the Academy.

Many went to Wal Mart for suits... you'll see a lot of those 'George' branded suits.

Light gray is what most will be wearing. I dunno if the packet mentions a watch, but you will be expected to wear one. I would invest in a Casio G-Shock since you'll need one for your career anyway.

BTW: Congrats to the 202nd graduates. Best of luck on FTO.

Also, the list of where the recruits got assigned is out: https://www.nyspnews.com/article_dis...ticle_id=43461

226 recruits: zero went to A/L/T, 6 went to G and 4 went to K.
