  • Here's a question:

Will the rank number shown on NYTrooper.com actual decrease, so we can see how far along the list they are? Or will we have to wait for people on here to say "I was rank 5764 and just got my letter"?

If anything, your rank may increase. You have military folks who sign up to take the exam but are away on deployment. Once their score is tally, that will affect yours

      • Yeah I get that. What I mean is, say my rank is 15000. Then they canvas 2500 people for a class to start in june. Come june or july, will my rank on the website now show as 12500? Another way to say it, I suppose, is is the rank shown dynamic, or static?

        • I believe it will remain static I've personally never seen a rank change due to hirings

          • Couple questions:
I have 2 tattoos, both on my lower inner bicep. While wearing a shirt with really long sleeves (almost to my elbow) you can only see an inch with my arms held out parallel to the ground. With my arms hanging down by my side, you can't see them at all due to their location.
            1. When going through the screening, how long are the sleeves on the shirt they put on you?
            2. Do they have you stand with your arms at your side, or move your arms above your head ect.?
            3. From my description, and your experience, are my tattoos going to be a problem? Should I be safe and try to get them removed?
Please do not quote the recruitment websites tattoo policy, as I have read it thoroughly.
I am looking for advise from past candidates or current Troopers with personal experience. No speculation please. Thanks in advance!

Long sleeves? You can't have tattoos showing while wearing *short* sleeves.

If you have them removed -- and removed well -- they can let it go.

It won't recalculate when people get called. You have to see if people volunteer that info here.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. By long sleeves, I am referring to the length of the short sleeve shirt. Hence where I wrote "almost to the elbow."

Once again, I'm aware of the info given on the recruitment website. As well as the fact that removing them would eliminate the problem.

However, aside from excision (getting the tattoos cut off surgically, $4500 a piece.) my only option is laser removal, which could take well over a year for removal.

I am trying to obtain reliable information from individuals with knowledge based on experience so that I may make an informed decision.

If you read this thread and the other NYSP thread in NY it has been discussed. I do not have personal knowledge of the screening, but started having mine removed back when the test was announced (Aug / Sep) and have had 8 or so treatments (not fun btw). Based upon what I have read and what troopers have said, If your wearing a normal short sleeve shirt (roughly 2 inches above the elbow) and anything shows your probably not "ok." Unless you scored in the top 2000 you have plenty of time for laser removal because it will probably be a year or two before you even hear anything...

Thanks for your input. I apologize if this has been addressed, I have only read about 100 of the over 300 pages.
                            I am ranked under 1000.

                            • In that case id recommend you contact a recruiter and a tattoo removal specialist asap. As I said, ive had 6 plus months and im not done getting mine removed and in the same situation as you. Its a long process. Good luck. And to correct myself - it may have been addressed in the PA State police thread. Either way I wouldnt chance it myself...Good luck.
