Just curious, did they bring back the rank of corporal? I saw some picture on nytrooper.com with apparent academy staff with just two chevrons.

I heard that about 450 people showed up today, can anybody here confirm this? Also if this is true will there be another processing to add more possible candidates?

Heard the same thing too. Also heard from an ATO approx. 100 were lost on the sit-ups alone.

100 on situps... wow I saw at least 10 guys that couldnt make the run, that heat was brutal today! I just dont see it possible for them to put in a class of 100 with only 350 candidates. Either there is going to be another processing weekend or they have alot of candidates that didnt get into the 198th and are waiting for the next class. If that's true then they will only pick about 30 to 40 people from this processing.

Does anyone know about the NYS retirement tiers? If I am currently in a lower tier and take the trooper position do I stay in the lower tier or move to tier 6? Thanks.

Your date of entry into a NYS state retirement system determines your tier. If you were hired in 2000 as a custodian and in tier 2 and became a police officer tomorrow, you would be in tier 2 in the NYS police/fire retirement system
