It's not as far as you think it is. That's only 2 1/2 years. In 2 1/2 years you could, complete university credits, learn a 2nd language, volunteer your time to help others, improve your shooting, enlist in the military for 2 year tour, help an old woman cross the street!!!...the list is endless. ALL of these are events in your life that will stand out when it's time to complete your background. You want yours to stand out in a positive way.

It's all about improving yourself as a candidate and there's nothing wrong with starting now.

        Good Luck

          Very good point Phoenix . . . There's a such thing as a 2 year tour, haha.
Sad to say but unless you scored in the 90's, you probably won't have the opportunity for them to review your background.

They've been busy arresting British citzens trying to sneek into the country by walking across the frozen Niagara River, and then getting stranded at the base of the Rainbow Bridge.

Yea, you're right Pheonix... it was like 10,600 ish people. And the previous examination in 2004, they canvassed like 10,700 ish or around there. But the scary thing is, these rankings aren't final yet.... our rankings can fall back a few thousand after these supplemental examinations which could ultimately push us out of the race. Time will tell. Takes them 6 months to grade the examinations haha

I thought as long as complete all the selection steps satisfactorily then you would be appointed as a NYS trooper. Do they look at life experience to determine if you are appointed?

The selection proscess is very demanding - just because you can take a test and haven't done cocaine, it doesn't mean you will be a good Trooper. There are plenty of already employeed police officers that apply to be a Trooper that don't make the cut.

                          Bottom line...yes, they do.

                          • It isn't a cakewalk. It is a very rigorous selection process, even if you make it to the Academy, being out on the road 6 months from the Academy start date isn't a guarantee.

Being employed NYSP is still not guaranteed 12months after graduation as you will still be on probation. After that... well after that you are still under scurinty from everybody and anybody...

If you're (not) good enough... you can be on probation with 20 years on if you want to be
