  • NYPD, Housing, and Transit

I've read on other posts that the ratio of recruits getting put into patrol, housing, and transit is apx. 70%-20%-10% respectively. Does this sound correct?

How do they determine who gets put into which bureau? From what I can tell the dreamsheets don't allow you to indicate which bureau you want - just locations.

Does it ever matter how well you performed and tested in the academy?

If you have your choice, and you like to work, pick transit bureau. Virtually unlimited OT due to the needed presence of officers in our subways, railways in this day of terrorism. Good luck, be safe.

You're put where you're needed. How many people are going to volunteer to do vertical patrol in the projects (no offense to those who do it)?

Also, you can't choose location. You can indicate where you want to go, but you're not guaranteed to get it. I'm guessing that almost everyone says they want Manhattan - no room for them all.

I want to make it clear that I'm not a cop. I'm thinking of signing on to NYPD and have had my ear to the ground.
