  • Dallas/Arlington PDs

Wondering if anyone has any personal experiences regarding the hiring process at Arlington/Dallas. I am currently a Deputy in NW Florida, but my wife would like to relocate to back to where she's from - she can make triple what she's making here. I already have a testing date with both PDs and have been through their websites. For me, it's not about the money as it is about job satisfaction and having a department that will back you when need be. Any info would be appreciated. For current LEOs, any experience that you've had either working with/in these departments would also be appreciated. I have a M.S. in CJ administration, 7 1/2 years USMC MP experience and about 6 months civilian LE experience.

I've heard nothing but bad things about DPD, and nothing but good things about APD. I bet I'm not the only one either.

      DPD....APD

I worked in Mansfield which borders Arlington to the south. Both DPD and APD will require you to go to their academy, even if POST certified.

APD pays better but has a college degree requirement.

Being you are POST cetified, you can challenge the state test (TCLEOSE) and if you pass you are state qualified and can go work for agencies that don't put you through their academy.
