Does anyone have any information about PD's in the area of Kansas City, Ks or Mo? Looking in the area and don't know much about the smaller towns like Gladstone and etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I'm looking myself. I live in Kansas City and just got my POST certification from the state. Gladstone is a pretty laid back department. They are currently doing some hiring but you have to already have a POST certification to qualify. It's hard to find out who's doing the hiring around Missouri because they don't have nifty websites like the Kansas Peace Officers Association does. North Kansas City is a small town department that is also doing some hiring right now. Applications accepted up until the end of the month. If you like a department that gets new equipment and top of the line stuff via tax money from the local casino that's the place to go!

Depends on how they feel!No really...it took me 5 years of trying to get them to accept my Texas certification. And then to boot only gave me credit for 570 out of the 600 hours I took. You might check out their website or give them a call. They'll send you out the Veteran Peace Officer packet to fill out and send back.

Mo has several different types of certifications needed, depending on where your planning on working. When I was in KS looking to go to MO, it was a very tough process, and I found it was easier to return to VT. Most all departments will require the POST before they will hire you. One of the better academy's in the state is MSSC in Joplin. Good luck!
On the KS side, it's really hard to find a bad place in the Metro area. All the departments are well respected, and even the smaller ones are quite busy. Even KCK has made big strides and is considered a top notch agency.
Unfortunately I don't know much about the MO side of the Metro area. Down south Joplin is a excellent department, and a great city.

Stay in Kansas. Lenexa, Overland Park, Roeland Park, Shawnee, Olathe, Prairie Village, Leawood, and Johnson County SD all pay better than most surburb agencies on the Missouri side.
I know going from Missouri to Kansas is pretty easy (3 week class) but coming from Kansas to Missouri is supposed to be a pain because to be a LEO in the KCMO Metro area you have to have a Class A POST Certificate.....600 hours or more of training.

Not a bad place to work. Starting pay is 37.7K. 10 year pay is 56K. Pension contribution is only 1.1%. Family health coverage is $160/month. Low call volume. Lots of opportunity for a proactive officer to do what he wants.
**Updated January 2008**
Starting pay-39.2K.
10 year pay-58.3K.
Family insurance-$173/month
