ignorant question: what exactly is a "strong response" ?

See my above post to help you understand...a strong response is when you show strong reactions to the questions via your psyiological readings. I.E. when they asked them if their name was John Doe (or whatever their name really is), they said "yes" but their pulse went up, their galvanic (sp?) skin response went up (sweat production), and their breathing changed.

okay, that is what I thought - but didn't know if there was more to it.. for example if "Stong" was directly linked to deception or what-not.

        thanks

Hello all. Can anyone give me some feedback about the Polygraph done on BSO office? I got mine scheduled soon. I'm not nervous about answering the truth, but I have never been strapped to one of these machines before.

Can anyone who has done it in BSO give some advice and tell who was it? your experience etc?

          Tks
Sometimes you feel tired, feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up. But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength and just pull it out of you and get that motivation to not give up and not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on your face and collapse.

the polygraph examiner will beable to tell if your not telling the truth... the actual readings from all the physical reactions measured are more of a secondary thing... the examiner knows that the polygraph readings are not 100% accurate, but if he is a good examiner, then he knows what buttons to push to get the truth.
            Yeah right...

The things are not accurate. I could expand on that, but it is a waist of time.

Always tell the truth..That is the best you can do.

The polygraph does what it was designed to due accurately 100% of the time. That is, measure physiologic responses. It is not a lie detector. There is no such thing. The science behind it requires the examiner to interpret your physiologic responses to his yes or no questions. So it is 100% accurate in that it measures your pulse rate and respirations. It is not 100% accurate in terms of detecting deception. That's where the examiner skill comes in, and as far as that goes, you either believe in the science or you don't. The science is not considered reliable enough to be admissible in court, but obviously govt. agencies rely upon the results for pre-employment screening, so you have to live with the process.

I know multiple guys that passed State and Federal polys and passed who lied.

I know others who were truthful and failed or were considered deceptive.

Its a crap shoot IMO but part of the game.

When i took one it was pretty much certifying things on the paper work you fill out talking about your life etc. They know you will be nervous and judge that properly. The fact is, if you fill out your packet prior and are being honest you should be fine. I was the last one to finish filling out the packet out of 30 people, it took me forever, but i had let so much out that there was nothing they could have asked me that i didnt already put yes or no to on paper, so i went in there with a clear head.

They dont really try to "mess" with you, but they are trying to see if you are serious in my opinion, she asked me a question about something on my resume that was so obvious i knew she was trying to gauge my reaction, i answered calm and cool, she asked again, answered cool again, that was it.

Depending on the place is going to determine what they ask you, but just be honest and you will have no problems.

I take my first poly tomorrow morning. I am a nervous wreck, not due to my past, but merely never having taken one. I am trying to tell myself to relax and to not worry about it as the department is uber-competitive and there are a lot of really good candidates out there, and my test score was not phenominal. (i know not real positive, but trying to relax a bit). Hopefully I will do well, and either way that this goes, I can at least say that I have completed one polygraph.

My advice to everyone. If you are going to take a polygraph do not try and learn more about it.

It's a secretive process of trickery and if you figure out the trick you could end up hurting yourself.

It's best if you go in there honest, nerves high, and tell the truth.

I have to ask, are you concerned about them asking about child pornography on the polygraph?

yes they ask everything. imagine what could be the worst skeletons in your closet...and it's asked. the majority of people don't have to worry about these questions and can answer them truthfully; granted some people will just be "nervous" because of the situational stimuli, however if you are concerned about CP at this point...then I would say that if you have those skeletons hanging in your closet then it's time to move on....I believe the most "question" people have issues with is the drug related issues...not CP.

The absolute worst possible thing you can do, is come into a Polygraph with preconceived notions. Do yourself a favor and just memory dump right now.

All you need to do is get plenty of rest, be honest, attentive and focused thats it period.

                              Just trust me on this

3rd Polygraph for border patrol 15-3
