How accurate can this be? I don't know why anyone would leave USMS to go to DO. Please offer any info you might have.

I'm in the process for both.

Pretty sure I know who you are talking about. Both were USMS DEOs (Detention Enforcement Officers, not DUSMs), which primarily work the cell block and cap out at GS9.

I was in for both at the same time as well. Picked up by UD first because they are hurting more and need people but got the call for SA after a few months out of training. I turned it down because I am leaving regardless.

Seems more like it. I can't imagine any (DUSM) stepping down to DO. I knew something was not right.

It was a tough decision, believe me. I'm just waiting for the call from HSI now so it worked out in the end.

Now that ICE is a branch of HSI, deportation officer makes it easier to lateral into full HSI, which has a journeyman of gs-13 whereas USMS is still capped at 12. Maybe that is their reasoning.

Regarding the FIT test, I've looked over the standards online at the USMS site. Do you have to pass the minimums to satisfy the conditional offer or do you have until the end of BDUSM? If the latter, what are the "passing" pre employment standards?
You must pass minimum standards just to get a final offer. You must pass minimum standard again on the first day of CITP, again on the first day of BDUSM ( i think) , and again at the end. You better be getting better than minimum scores to survive. If you struggle to do a mile and a half in under 14 youre in serious trouble running the 10 mile "marshal mile" or the [classified length] rope run.

Is this chart still accurate jtl? https://www.usmarshals.gov/careers/fitness_men.html if so, the minimum running standard is relatively fast.

I thought it was public knowledge that the rope run is 10 miles.

                          • Why they have you running and all that other noise if all they do is sit in a court room all day or drive around in a vehicle???

A fine question that many including I have pondered during lengthy judicial deliberations....along with improving my scrabble scores....
