With the USMS being short there will be more classes or the same in FY 2018. Keep in mind that the applicants from the 2012 announcement are recently being call for a class. I'll be applying under the Pathways announcement. Good luck to you all!
Is this pathways announcement for recent college grads? If so I still do not get that. They will give a recent college grad a chance over someone with professional life experience. I do not mean this towards people who finished their Bachelor's a little late due to military service and or others, or masters degree with life experience. I do not get it especially when geared towards a 22 year old with no real job yet. Yet 6 years ago I applied to a few things(non LE) as a recent college grad with the pathways program and nothing. That was when it first came out so maybe they have made some headway with it. I just do not get it.

Well yes, Im not a vet. I've been in law enforcement for over 5 years. I went back to school for a masters and graduated in September. I qualify to apply. So not all applicants will be straight from college. Just right timing I guess. You have to understand that the assessment will probably knock people out. I'm pretty sure some of those questions on there are geared toward some type of work experience.

I understand where you're coming from - don't got an answer for you.

I just know that with my 2 years post graduation coming to a close in August, i'll surely be taking advantage of it lol. But I mean, they did just recently open an announcement for applicants outside of the recent graduate restrictions. Either way, it benefits me so I'm not complaining.

EDIT: and it helps vets as well.

Was that the vet preference one you are talking about or did they have another one too? Thanks

            • Does anyone have any clue or timeframe of when the pathway program announcement may come out?

              • Today I was told about 2 usms that jumped ship to ICE (Deportation Officer). Reason: not enough pay. They were GS7 and GS9.

How accurate can this be? I don't know why anyone would leave USMS to go to DO. Please offer any info you might have.

I'm in the process for both.

I know they get a lot of OT. Escorting people back to their country, but from what i have heard from many DO is that they are over worked. But OT would be the main reason to go to to ICE deportation. I

Thanks for the response. I still can't understand why jump to DO after already being USMS for a year or two. Also, if money was the case they would go to CBP and make about 120k.

Or come to the Secret Service UD. More overtime than you'll know what to do with. You'll be around 110k plus your first year.

Recent grad announcements don't really mean much. Sure, your typical 22 year old college grad will apply, but with all the vets who are now detectives who just got their masters or law degree applying, the young people with no experience probably won't get far.

And if they want a few fresh minds to mold? So be it.

I have been applying to UD and SA for a long time now. Still waiting. I would love to get in with USSS.

Not necessarily, first one has to score high on the assessment. I know 10 point vets who didnt make it to the interview because they didnt score high enough during the application phase. Plus that was with the 10 points added.

Main "issue" with pathways. It's not like the coop program they had where you have 24 ur old deputies after college.

You have plenty of vets using GI Bill with and without experience.

I doubt any ordinary college kid has a chance. It was a little frustrating meeting some of the deputies that were younger than me during my internship.

                              • Thanks for the availability info, jtl323.

Regarding the FIT test, I've looked over the standards online at the USMS site. Do you have to pass the minimums to satisfy the conditional offer or do you have until the end of BDUSM? If the latter, what are the "passing" pre employment standards?
