The next announcements are for GS 11 and 12 and after that another will be for Recent Graduates under the Pathways Program. I doubt a public announcement happens.

      • By the time there is a public announcement you might as well enlist and serve your time so you're a veteran by then.

        • Is it just me or does anyone else find it ironic that the USMS opened a vacany announcement today for a HR "specialist".

          • What is so ironic about that ...it has nothing to do with hiring

That's what line level HR workers are called, Human Resource Specialist.

              • I think what he means is that it is ironic that instead of the USMS hiring Deputies, they are trying to hire the people that do the hiring ....

This announcement will be in addition to the government wide Deputy US Marshal hiring initiative and the new Recent Graduate Pathways Program announcement. Applicants who wish to apply under this upcoming announcement, must have satisfactorily completed the Basic Criminal Investigative Training Program (CITP) at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA, or an equivalent training course. PLEASE direct all applicant inquiries regarding this employment opportunity to the Law Enforcement Hiring and Student Programs (LEHSP) Branch at [email protected]. More information concerning this upcoming announcement will be forthcoming.

Update: The Region 3 - Puerto Rico
As part of the application process, the USMS is conducting interviews for those applicants who have made it to the Structured Interview portion of the process. Interviews are being conducted in the District of Puerto Rico and in Headquarters. HRD would like to thank those Districts who provided structured interviewers and district recruiting officers at short notice for this endeavor. With the upcoming DUSM hiring initiative, there will be many opportunities for more structured interviewers and district recruiting officers to assist HRD in the future so stay tuned.

The External Deputy U.S. Marshal Hiring Drive

In partnership with OPM, HRD has begun posting external entry level Deputy US Marshal Announcements. The next announcement will be the CI, GS-1811 11/12 position. As the Deputy Director stated in his memo, it will be posted government wide. As we conclude our pilot regional PR announcement, HRD is reviewing the pros and cons of using regional announcements for future postings. One of the biggest cons was the sheer number of applicants we received for the targeted location. We had hoped this would be a way of keeping down our costs, but the applicant volume still doubled our original cost estimates. Since cost is a major factor in posting these announcements, the next entry-level Deputy US Marshal announcement will be nationwide instead of regional.
Currently the order of posting announcements will be will be:
                  o Region 3 – Puerto Rico Posted 2/16/16 - Closed
o CI, GS-1811 11/12 Government wide Posting Date: TBD
o DUSM GL-0082 07 Government wide Posting Date: TBD
o DUSM Recent Graduate Pathways Posting Date: TBD
HRD hopes to begin posting the next announcement as soon as we complete the application process of the previous announcement. More information about the DUSM hiring initiatives will be posted in the coming weeks as we finalize our plans with OPM.
All DUSM announcements will be posted at www.usajobs.com Any interested applicant is encouraged to establish an account in USAJOBS and set up their job notification alerts. Our announcements are very popular and the recent Puerto Rico announcement only stayed open for 24hrs. HRD continues to receive a lot of interest from the public and believes future announcements will open and close very quickly. HRD will make every effort to keep this page updated during this hiring drive. Please check back here for updates on posting links and hiring information.
As a reminder, all external applicants, (this includes applicants who are on the November 2012 certificates) will need to apply under the new external announcements if they want to be considered for future DUSM positions. Internal MP applicants (USMS Government Employees) have the option to apply for external announcements. If they are currently on the 2015 Internal USMS MP announcement certificate, this hiring certificate will remain open through FY2017 and those eligible employees will continue to be considered for the FY2016 BDUSM classes.

We have extended the November 2012 Best Qualified category certificates through June 2016. Applicants from the eight (8) regional certificates will be considered as we staff the upcoming June 2016 BDUSM Class. Applicants from the November 2012 certificates should send all inquiries regarding their DUSM application status to: [email protected]

I believe this was a memo sent from the US Marshals HQ. (Please correct me if I am wrong) However, if this is accurate there is still going to be a CI posting (11/12), then the 7/9 for entry level, then the recent graduates. So entry level hopefuls and recent graduates may still have a lot of waiting.
Can anyone verify if this is still the anticipated hiring schedule?

Yes. Which means little , as they can change on a whim.

                    • I eagerly await the response posts from people that will say things like " Thats the bread and butter of the Marshals service", or "thats the primary mission..", because i hear them all the time. My counter response will be "just because things ARE does not mean things MUST BE". Everyone and everything needs to evolve.

Saw this article the other day, and while it was written about the LAPD, i thought to myself "They are describing the US Marshals".
                      http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...419-story.html

A couple of highights of the article:

“Our highly trained and wonderful police officers should do more officer work and less office work,” Galperin said at a news conference at City Hall.

“These jobs we have to identify don’t require specialized training or expertise of a sworn officer,” he said

They include positions such as manning desks, managing equipment rooms, time-keeping, clerical work, auditing work, performing digital media tasks and acting as couriers. Some 83 officers also work as jailers.

“Cops belong in our communities, not in cubicles,” Garcetti said

You would be amazed at the amount of office work gun toters do in this agency in lieu of actaul enforcement public safety work. I would dare to say its on an 80-20 or even 90-10 ratio.

Good article, hopefully LAPD gets their head out of six and gets those guys back on the streets. Perhaps some other agencies will follow suit and think outside the box.

                      • I'll throw this out there. Just because people feel they should work the streets doesn't mean they should. Sometimes desk jobs and court are there for people that can't operate proficiently in other areas. I will leave this as broad as I can. I have been clearing houses with people that have received the same if not more training than I have; and I did not feel safe at all. Let the door kickers, kick doors......

                            Absolutely.

There is a valid reason most of the time why some are not working enforcement. They just refuse to see it. If you as a supervisor ask 10 guys "who is the best worker here" etc, all 10 will step forward, even if 1 or 2 clearly don't fit the bill.

There are hundreds of men and women assigned full time to IOD doing 100% enforcement and hundreds of others from districts either TDY to regional TFs or running district TFs of their own. Not surprisingly not everyone is cut out for this. Even competent deputies who just aren't interested in call outs all hours of the night will gravitate toward something else.

There are many, many missions in the agency that are worthwhile and enjoyable. Find one or find another job and let someone else fill the vacancy who will chose to excel and love what they do.

I'd be absolutely astonished if someone had that information in advance and shared it publicly leatherneck. If you got some inside intel about the date and time it was going to be posted and you knew there were limited number of application spots available (i.e. first 100), would you post it here or anywhere for that matter? Just food for thought.
