There has to be some sort of training for them.

The new hire TSO academy at FLETC starts this month I believe. There has been TSA training at FLETC for some time, but mainly for people in other positions. I guess they figure since TSA is under the law enforcement banner of the executive branch and TSO's are in an 1800 position (although it's a law enforcement support function with limited authority to administrative searches and inspections), they should start training them in a central location. On one hand it makes more sense to have everyone trained the same, but on the other they are going to be spending a lot of money to transport people, feed them, house them etc just for a part-time entry level position.

It should be noted that those TSA personnel that have been at FLETC for the last couple of years were all supervisors. There is a 2 week course they send all supervisors to in Glynco. Not sure what this new training is but I'd imagine it mimics something like BOP's basic training. They probably have it there because they have that pretty realistic mock training airport.

Just a suggestion to those who apply. I would put applications in for every other federal LE job available as well and only take this one if every other one rejects you.

This job is known to be one of the worst and most thankless federal LE positions. I have known many former FAMs and talked to a few active FAMs as well and the job leaves a lot to be desired. Believe me when I say that the morale in this agency is very low.

That said if I wanted to get my foot in the door and stop the clock, I would still take the position. If you have any other choice though, including the BOP, take it.

I just got done speaking with a colleague in one of the field offices and he had some great insight. The director want's polygraph's given for this round of hiring but the thought process is there is no way they can implement a policy in time and it may have to be used for a future hiring announcement (this was their guess from the rumblings they've heard, not fact).

This hiring announcement that opens tomorrow (1/4/2016) is going to be very heavily female oriented in terms of who they are trying to recruit. While they obviously can't come right out and say they are looking to diversify by hiring mainly women they can and have put subtle lines in their recruitment flyers for this event (i.e. one floating around on Facebook says, "Females are strongly encouraged to apply")

If you cannot consistently shoot a 255 then it's probably not in your best interest to apply as that is their standard.

I think this hiring announcement caught a lot of the current FAMS off guard with the closing of offices and moving Marshals to more populated field offices. It seems counter intuitive to every move the FAMS have been making in the past couple of years; however, if the number of female marshals is as low as they say then this female-centric hiring announcement makes complete sense.

This obviously is not gospel but comes from a decent source.

A lot of non-LE goes to FLETC. For example seized property specialists with CBP and Enforcement and Removal Assistants with ICE ERO.

Very interesting. Anybody know what the competition is like for one of these FAM spots? Is it a deal where hundreds/thousands apply for a handful of positions? And also a random question...how does vacation scheduling work for the FAMS? If you want to use a vacation day or whatever, is it fairly accommodating or is it very difficult?

                  Looking forward to applying!

Rest assured even if they officially came out tomorrow and said 99% of the applicants we hire will be women (they would never say this of course)there would still be thousands upon thousands of applicants. Most of them are probably not even qualified for various reasons but that won't stop them from applying. Some agencies put a limit like the vacancy announcement will close after the first 500 applicants, this will not be the case here.

Your chances are no better or worse than the 1000s of unqualified candidates that will apply and lie on the occupational questionnaire

Not true about the 255. With practice anyone can get a 255 and above. Apply if you like.
