Got the initial “we will call you” email on Thursday, got everything scheduled today. Good luck!
Any idea how to access the PT requirements?
-
The TSA makes each Federal Marshal Agent candidate undergo a Physical Training Assessment to give candidates a taste of the physical requirements expected by the Federal Air Marshal Training Program. The objective of the PTA is to ensure that candidates selected for training at the FAMTP are prepared for the fitness routine.

I found a document online that may have some PT insight. Go to page 28 and you can see they list 3 pullup, 31 pushup, 34 situp, 15:44 1.5mile. this is from 2014 so i dont know if anything has changed since then.

Hello All,
I wish everyone luck on their journey, there are no guarantees while applying and going through the academy. Stay positive as there’s still many hurdles but not impossible. The hardest part of is getting hired and getting through the training.
Once you make it, it’s a lot of new experiences for you as a new FAM. The pay is generous and the work is manageable(schedule wise). Allows time if you applied it correctly can help you finish up college if haven’t already completed.
When you get your conditional offer, your journey begins, FLETC….. it’s a training environment. So, you have your Physical Standards, Crime scene procedures, evidence collection, fingerprinting, court proceedings, Weight Training, Fire Arms Proficiency , Written examinations, defensive tactics, Arrest techniques, defensive driving and more.
Other challenges you might encounter: Boredom, financial adjustment, family separation during training. No Vehicles, Lack of cellphones usage, however, there’s still things you can do.
There are swimming pools, caves, Walmart, MWR, or just do cookouts with your classmates. If this is something you are interested and dreaming to do, then keep your hopes up. It’s a lengthy process especially when you are waiting on updates. If you know anyone else that missed the announcement and want to apply, there’s a projection for a new announcement in March 2023. Good luck.

Recoil mentioned it, you will report to your field office and will be there until your academy start date. This could mean you can stay as little as 2 weeks or two months long at the office until you ready to ship out. There’s going to be administrative stuff to get done prior to you going to the academy. Long story long, they will provide you with the information prior to your start date.

Well it looks like the end of the line for me folks. Once again I spent almost a year through a hiring process and clearing everything... just to be shutdown by a polygrapher claiming deception. It's unfortunate that agencies put the polygraph at the end of the process and make it a sole judgement of candidate suitability when it's so subjective. Good luck to everyone else! It was useful/fun reading this forum and the updates over the months.

I will offer a different perspective on the FAM position, which is needed:
I honestly have never met a FAM that was "happy" unless they were getting ready to retire. The look on their faces, the academy staff, field office staff, etc is just the look of being worn down and a cog in a big convoluted machine (TSA). That can be said for a lot of different jobs but it is especially prevalent at FAMS.
FAMS has an inferior complex since they are lumped in with TSA. When people think of TSA, they have visions of a 400lb screener sticking his hand up a 100 year old man in a walker's butt. So what do FAMS do to counter that? They try to act like they are "hot s***t" because they do a lot of "cool" training. When you ask most FAMS how many "incidents" they have dealt with, they will tell you they made 1-2 arrests in a 20 years career... I had one FAM tell me he hasn't written a single report in his life and was proud of that. Cool, I'm sure you will get your 1811 job, that most FAMS dream of, with that one your resume.
The entire time I was at FAMS, all I kept hearing about was this guy had a heart attack, that guy had a stroke, this guy died right after retirement. That job will literally take YEARS off your life. Sitting cooped up in a tube is not healthy. I have never heard about so many on-duty health issues. The ACY Medical Staff literally told me not to take the job and stay where I was at and that I would get bored with FAMS....lol
There is a big "crabs in the bucket" mentality at that agency. The people there hate to see you succeed so they like to keep you at their level... It makes them feel better about themselves....
For all of you in the process and are looking for your first gov't job, take it but have a plan to bounce REALLY fast. It's not an agency designed for 20 years of sitting on your behind, unless you want an early grave.....Just something to consider.
Good luck! You're going to need it....Last edited by hangman; 02-07-2023, 02:48 AM.

How long were you at FAMS and what office?
-
Generally speaking, the FAMS I’ve spoken with are pretty happy with their jobs, especially now that they are getting pay parity with the General Schedule starting this summer.
The main reason FAMS switched to other agencies was because the lack of pay issue that has now been resolved.
But to the people applying: find out and decide for yourself.

Your perspective is your own. This job has so much freedom--more than any other agency. Yes, you must be flexible with your schedule and it can be hard with a family. But you'll travel all over, rack up hotel points for vacations, make plenty in per diem, and you'll have as many short fly days as you will long days. Overall, now is the BEST time to join that there has ever been.

I got my field office assessment coming up, any tips on the interview questions? I know they are going to be STAR questions.

Greetings,
Besides mastering the STAR/STARGL/PAR, practice interviews etiquette. Hand shakes, greetings, dress professionally, come prepared, express your interest in wanting to get hired, take notes (if allowed) ask questions.
These are some things to consider before heading to the interview. Hydrate, use moisturizer on your face, lotions on your hands. This helps you glow and not all dry and weird. Ensure you have adequate sleep/rest. Have a healthy meal before the interview.
If you like the recommendations, then use it. If not then find what works for you. I can say be confident in your responses and don’t make up stories as it will stick out. Unless you’re good with stories. Good luck!
