Grey De Leon- A DHS poly is any poly given by an agency that falls under DHS such as CBP or ICE. -
A300! thought that referred to all DHS Poly, like from SS/USCG. But even so they are still done by OPM or DOD, unless the TS Clearance Poly isn't the same as the hiring one. Not sure how it works I've bee told the if you've had a background investigation/clearance or done a SF86 that it will be a factor is how it was conveyed. -
so yeah dont worry about missing the call, they most certainly dont expect people to stop their life and sit by their phone 24/7. They will leave a message and you can just call them back. Nothing to worry about, and it will be the same for the call with the official offer if and when it happens. Good luck

Question for current or former FAMS. When they do your background check how important is your credit score ? Is that a defining factor and if it is how high does it need to be to still be considered ?Comment

Pull your personal credit report and make sure you are transparent with your background. Honesty plays a huge role. Be prepared to explain why bills were left unpaid. Life happens - divorce, unexpected medical cost, and living expenses... or any matter that is valid...isn’t a reason to deny you... but let’s say you were living way outside your means and didnt take care of your finances... they may look at you as a risk. Just piggybacking off gkov. -
I'd say credit score is fairly important. It's not only used to check your debts, but also for the issuing of your government credit card. With FAMS especially the credit card is a big deal. It's probably one of very few agencies who use the government credit card on a daily basis. While you're reimbursed for your travel expenses, you are responsible for the payment of the credit card each month (at least when I was there reimbursement didn't go directly to the cc). It's why lots of FAMS will set up a separate bank account for their trip expenses and per diem money. Keeping separate travel vs. salary is important, because if it's all comingled in a joint account a spouse/partner may see it and spend it before you have a chance to pay your credit card. FAMS is pretty strict (as are all government agencies really) with making sure your government credit card is paid off monthly. -
I have been flying for a few years now and the credit check is important for several reasons. As others have said you will have a government credit card that you will use almost daily if you’re a flying FAM. The Agency would like to know that you are responsible with credit card usage. Also credit check is important to see if you’ve lied about or left out anything in your SF-86 that you may be trying to hide. Also the agency would like that you have your finances in order because by nature of our position FAMS are highly susceptible to bribes. On domestic flights we circumvent security which of course creates opportunities that some unscrupulous FAMS may take advantage of.

Appdin, I wonder how quickly the FAMS process with move after the COs are sent out to applicants. I can't see any agency moving faster than USSS has been lately (crazy fast). -
Anthropologist when I had my interview with the ASAC he said academy will start before the end of september due to the money being allocated and needing to be used before the end of the fiscal year -
Appdin, that isn't terrible as federal agencies go, but it is definitely a still a significant wait... -
