  • displeased with the job search

I notice from time to time some of us become displeased to say the least and rant on the threads. Well I decided to create a thread just for that.. a place to voice disapproval of the process or dissatisfaction of the process.

REMEMBER THEY DO READ OUR POSTS SO BE WISE AND DONT #$#%$ THIS AGENCY OR %#$% THAT OFFICIAL!

Lets make this a thread where we can voice the issues that have tripped us up so we can help one another past them..

    I'll be the first...

Who gets the "does not meet specific experience" email when they have been doing the job for years and even cut n paste the requirements into their resume? I received those today from an DOT 1811 announcement GRRR!

The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. He has fangs and the capacity for violence. The difference, though, is that the sheepdog must not, cannot and will not ever harm the sheep. Any sheepdog who intentionally harms the lowliest little lamb will be punished and removed.

The part when you don't get hired kind of sucks.

ya, after years of service in the military, DHS has made me jump through so many hoops to prove I'm capable of doing a job just because of a VA rating?

I received two of those yesterday, and it blew my mind. My experience is literally exactly what the jobs are looking for. I emailed the "recruiters" for the jobs, and received responses back within the hour that said I had been changed from "not qualified - lacks specialized experience" to "referred." I'm glad they fixed it, but why was the mistake made in the first place? Get your **** together and do your job right the first time.

Or how about the fact that you have a TS/SCI that, for some reason, isn't accepted by another agency, and the new agency questions you about something that happened 10 years ago and has never affected your ability to do your job? The same goes for medical. Sure, I may have had knee surgery 17 years ago, but it sure didn't stop me from doing my duties as a Marine, so why in the hell do I have to "prove" to you that is isn't a limiting condition?

Been a cop going on 9 years, still have some agencies saying that I don't have the required experience.

this is what I'm talking about.... I sent this.

Subject: Re: Does Not Meet Specialized Experience

I am not sure if you are a part of the identifying party evaluating resumes or not, but this is the second email rating me as not qualified based upon "specialized experience". I Have attached the supplied resume with this email along with required qualification requested from the job announcement. Each of the requirements for qualification are listed in the resume. As you will note, some of them were also addressed in the supporting documents as well.

                        and got this back.
                        Good afternoon,

The resume uploaded as part of the application is not the one you sent me. The system must have taken an old one that was uploaded on 10/21/2010. This 2010 resume was used to determine your eligibility. After searching in the system I found the new version. Based on the new resume I will change the evaluation determination for the GS-1811-9 and GS-1811-11 as qualified as you do meet the minimum qualifications.

                        one must ask how??

The sinking feeling that being a cop in a metro city, being tri-lingual and fluent in Russian and French, and a Master's degree from GWU only puts me as average among other candidates.

Rant number 2: the wait to find out if I have been referred to even begin testing. 10 years go by quickly between sequestration, application process times, feels like I don't have much time to get into the 1811 game even at 26 years of age.

These days it's all about who you know and an 10 point vet just to get hired. Not even worried about experience.
