  • Backdoor ways into Fed LE?

According to Veterans Recruitment Appointment, a hiring official can hire a 5 or 10 point veteran non-competitively into a position without having to post an announcement on USAJOBS.

I read a story on gijobs.com about how an Army officer who was severly injured in Iraq got a job with DHS as a physical security specialist or something similar. All the ex-officer did was talk to the hiring official, submit a resume, and a month or two later was hired.

Does anyone on here know of anyone who got hired this way?

I know all agencies aren't going to hire people through VRA but I heard some such as the Federal Protective Service do it quite often.

A back door way into federal LE.

Have you tried the temporary park ranger positions (0025)? In order to even apply you have to have the NPS Type II Law Enforcement Commission, which is only offered at a few colleges.

      http://www.nps.gov/personnel/seasonalle.htm

Simply put, the number of people you will be competing with for these jobs is so much smaller than most hiring pools due to the fact that the jobs are temporary, and the fact that you have to have the commission from NPS.
Natural selection leaves the survivors stronger and better! Humans have escaped this winnowing for far too long!

Its "do-able" but doesn't happen all that often, many agencies kind of look down on it.

30% + disabled vet can get appointed. That's about it. You have to know the hiring manager.

My agency has hired three 1811 that i know through this. All we did was collect resumes via word of mouth, conducted interviews, and made selections. My agency used to do the same with FCIP until it was stopped, but he Veterans thing will continue. Some had LE some didn't but were veterans, prior intel, some no MOS related to LE at all.
...and is commended as being worthy of trust and confidence
