  • Certification by waiver

Anyone on here ever go through the process or work with an officer who has done it?

I know a few states allow this such as FL and NM.

Do officers who cert. by waiver have a harder time during FTO and when they go solo than an officer who attended a "regular" academy?

Florida isnt so much a 'certified by waiver', as much as the waiver gets you out of the basic academy minus the high liability coursework. You still have to take the high liability stuff, take the state test and pass before you can be certified.

That being said, transition from another state is going to be dependent on picking up on how the new agency works. I know a guy with my agency that used to be a Mounty and he does fine..... It is all going to depend on the person.
