    Question about CBP pay?

Does anyone know if the current CBP position posted on USAjobs offers some kind of incentive for prior law enforcement, or LEAP pay like the other federal agencies? It strange that the salary range is so low, I mean how do they expect to fill positions with such bad pay. If anyone knows hit me up. Thanks.

    Which position, CBP Officer?

Job Title:Customs and Border Protection Officer

    Departmentepartment Of Homeland Security

    Agency:Customs and Border Protection

    Job Announcement Number:CBPO 12-1A
SALARY RANGE: $31,315.00 to $38,790.00 / Per Year

If it is, that's first year base salary for a GS-05. Base salary for a journeyman GS-12 is roughly 70K.

Pretty much everything you care to know about the CBPO position can be found in the CBP officer thread.

Merlin you guys get 50% sunday and double time OT right? I'm curious what is your regular night diff rate? 10%? On sunday after 6 do you get sunday pay and night D?

Whatever the case is, you guys are rolling in money. I'm jealous!

50% Sundays. OT is double time. Afternoon shift is 15% and nights are 20%. On Sundays we get only get the Sunday pay.

There is plenty of $$ to be made in some ports. Several officers are in the restricted list in my port because they are at or are a couple grand short of the 35k OT cap.

There is also very little money to be made in plenty of ports.
A great many CBPOs would be to the better or no worse off $$$-wise if they were on AUO with FLSA.
Many of those Officers tend to envy PAs.

There might be little money to be made in plenty of ports, but most CBPO's work in larger ports that get plenty.

To the original poster, COPRA is the system we get paid under. It is pretty lucrative. Double time for OT, (Mine is 80 an hour), 15% and 20% nite diff, time and a half for Sundays. The pay is not really an issue. I have been on for over 10 years. I worked some OT last pay period, and will take home over 4000 for two weeks. (not my usual, but ok for the busy season)

Just with my nite diff, I am close to 100,000, a little OT and I am over. If you did not know anyone working for CBP, based on the usa jobs notice, you would have no idea. Of course it is all the area you work in. Some local PD's (in my area) offer base pay of close to 100,000 after 5 years..

I'd love to see the numbers. As far as I know, they are closely guarded by both union/management.

Which probably says something. If all were 'rainbows and unicorns' within CBP/OFO as far as compensation goes...somebody would likely be crowing about it.
