I wanted to see what you thought of my work experience and to provide some input of my chances of getting hired.
    I will be back...

So do they hire any just-out-of-college graduates? Granted, I do have 2 years active in the Army from West Point, but I still think my work experience could be more extensive to apply for this position.

            Just received this email:

            Greetings Applicant,

Thank you for your interest in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI). We received your application/resume for our recent vacancy announcement (06-11-DEV-01) and wanted to give you a glimpse of the timeline ahead.

The response to our announcement was tremendous. We received over 200 applications and will begin the process of reviewing each of them. As you might imagine, this process will take some time. Here is the process we will use from this point forward.

            * Review applications for basic eligibility criteria
            * Criminal Investigative Review Board (CIRB) will score each qualified applicant (resume, education, etc.)
            * A portion of candidates will be invited to HQ AFOSI for an interview (number TBD)

            * Travel and lodging will be at applicant’s expense
            * Interview scores will be combined with CIRB score to form an order of merit

            * Once results are approved, AFOSI will make tentative job offers to those selected (numbers will be based on AFOSI projected needs at the time)
            * AFOSI will conduct background/suitability investigations on those who accept tentative offer
            * Those whose background investigations end favorably will either receive a firm job offer and scheduled for FLETC or be put into an approved applicant pool until a vacant position is available

This is not a quick process so we ask for your patience--it will take several months. If there’s one thing you can do to expedite the process it is to be responsive when asked for information from our HR Specialists or from agents conducting background investigations.

Finally, if you change your mind at any time during this process and decide you are no longer interested in employment with AFOSI, please notify us so we can remove your name from the list of applicants.

Thanks again for your interest in AFOSI!

Only 200+ applicants? I would have thought that number would have been much higher!

yeah, I'm just as surprised as you are. Maybe the number of technical issues experienced (especially with faxed apps) and the fairly thorough and detailed directions in the application instructions led to a lot of unfinished or incomplete applications being submitted?

I was shocked by that number as well. The announcement wasn't open long though.

I thought it would be a small # of applicants. Bad application system, not that popular of an agency, not on USAJOBS...

I wouldn't say it is a bad system. It is just not automated like people are getting used to which makes applications quick and easy. Look at it as screening method one to weed out those who didn't have the energy, resourcefulness, etc. to complete the application. This required people to be able to use more IT than just using the internet and asked people to put forth a little more effort which was really no more effort than applying for any other employer that does not take automated applications.
                      Just my .02 cents.

That's a good point and actually something I thought about while getting the app materials together. I was like, "Hmm, this stuff takes a little computer know-how to send in, I wonder if they'll take that into account"... haha.

Anyone applied to the recent one week announcement and not received the email yet? (ME)! Starting to worry a bit, seems like most people got the same acknowledgement email.

Maybe wait until Wednesday to start worrying. Since this may not have been automated, they may be sending these out one at a time to the applicants that have a complete package as they do a quick check for completeness. If they have limited personnel going through these, it may take a few days and today is a holiday.

If it helps to see if everything went out at once, and anyone else wants to post when they received their email, I received my email at Sun 7/3/2011 8:16 PM, which may eliminate my own theory since that appears to be roughly the time Corpor_usmc received his email.
