  • Several of you have PM’d me regarding the interview.
First of all, I am not going to tell you what will happen there, but I will give suggestions that will allow you to prepare for the interview.

    1. Know yourself. What are your strengths and weaknesses?
    2. Know AFOSI. If I ask you “what do you know about OSI?” And you say “You’re
Investigators.” You are not getting hired.
    3. Be professional.
    4. If you have issues in your past that are being discussed, know the difference
    between “Reasons” and Excuses”.
    5. Be ready to explain why we should hire you over the other 10 people that are fighting for
    your slot.

We are used to operating without full manning, and will continue to do so if we do not get the people we want. We are picky, because we give an amazing amount of responsibility and autonomy to our newest agents from the first day they graduate FLETC.

Sit up straight, make good eye contact, be able to speak without an "UUhhhhhhhhhhh" before every answer.

Good Luck, and I will see some of you in the future

Thanks for the advice! I will keep this in mind as I prepare for the interview. I agree wholeheartedly with your last statement. I have been on a panel for my current agency and confidence is key! If you are not confident in yourself how can you expect a panel to be confident enough in you to pass you on to the next phase.

      • Roll the dice folks.

You never know if you don't apply.

Computer centric positions, but still an agent.

          • Do any OSI agents know how many civilian positions the agency is looking to hire out of this announcement?

To be honest, it depends on various factors including: budget, numbers needed, and how many are in the "pipeline" from previous announcements. Sorry to be vague but it all depends on the needs of OSI at the current moment. When I was hired OSI brought on 25 civilian agents but that was a few years ago and things may have changed since then.

              • Pilt247,

You shave that face yet? Wanted to let everyone know I am back to and willing to answer questions!!

                Applicants,

To follow up what M-11 was saying...

The interview styles change from year to year, depending on who is conducting them and the needs of the agency at the given time. But I will say this. During the interview be very confident in your responses, show energy and enthusiasm. No matter what agency you apply for it is tough being hired as an 1811. Good luck to you all.

                • Question about initial assignment:

How is the initial assignement determined if offered employment with OSI? Has it been your experience that they offer multiple locations and you yet a choice, or do they offer you the position and give you your assignment once you are at FLETC? I have seen this handled both ways and am just curious how OSI does it?

Also, are the special agent positions GS12 or 13 at the journeyman level? I read through here and it appeared that they were 12's but now they are 13's? Do most agents come in at a 7 or a 9, or do they bring some in higher if they have the education and experience?

                  • First assignment is dependent on the needs of the agency of course. I was offered multiple assignments when I was hired, but some others were offered one assignment. I guess it depends what needs to be filled at the time and the critical nature of the assignment.

Officially the journeyman level is GS-12 I believe, but most positions are coded as GS-13 so you will receive your 13 a year after your 12 most of the time.

Most are brought in at 7 or 9, to be brought on at a higher level you must meet the qualifications in the OPM guidelines, same across the board for all federal agencies.

                    • Is it fair?

                      http://www.osi.andrews.af.mil/questi...ians/index.asp

So it looks AFOSI had their PAQ recruitment already. I'm so disappointed recruitment and applying are only done through on-campus events. Worst of all, I live in Florida. I don't live anywhere near TX, MD, and VA.

It just seems so unfair. I was so excited to be able to participate with the OSI PAQ application process.

I've already applied for the AF PAQ Intel Specialist, and also the Security Specialist, but OSI was my #1.

                      • No it is not fair.

If you want it, keep applying.

Giving up is easy, but if you keep improving your resume and watch for announcements everywhere, you will get picked up by some agency, somewhere.

                        • Well, that was the point of my applying, since I don't have the experience. I just have my degree with a high gpa and my internship with the USSS. It's just odd that the Air force PAQ can post certain jobs on USAjobs.gov, but when it comes to OSI PAQ, it's only through on-campus.

Oh well. I still have the Intel and security specialist PAQ I applied for. Hopefully I get either position, rack up the experience, and then apply for OSI down the road.

                            Keep pressing forward.

                            You will get in .
