  • Hi Pilt,

Thanks for answering it. That's what I thought too, assumed he was talking about other 1811 positions. One thing I like about OSI (other than being under AF) is the small size and the no test requirement :P

    We'll see what happens next.

    • What Pilt said.

Along with Constitutional/Military Law. 4th Amendment Law. International knowledge, COIN, and anything else you can imagine.

You need to know a little bit about everything around here. Your co-workers will be Jet Propulsion specialists, JTAC's, Civil Engineers, Medical Techs Etc.

The conversations (and investigations) are diverse and interesting.

Sounds like great advice. I'm a former Avionics guy; crossed into Intel as a 1N0 to gain experience for AFOSI. Trying to learn all I can on CI/AT/FP now.

M-11: Have any advice on prepping for OSI's CI/HUMINT mission? (of course, I'd gladly do any job asked of me; that's just one interest)

        • M11, didn't think about learning more about the Air Force or the job specialties. Any idea on how to go about that, other then the internet? I checked awhile ago and OSI doesn't do "ride along" type programs like some other agencies do. Also, when is it appropriate to refer to the Air force as the chair force? Just kidding.

Everything I have heard so far about OSI is great though, it feels like it is one of those best kept secrets out there. Let's hope they do not have a tv show about it and ruin it for all of us (looking at you NCIS)

Focus on the 25 meter target. If you want it, there will be plenty of opportunities.

            ForzaM,

on't need to learn the specialties as much as the more tehnical mindset to do tough investigations.

Think of the poor enlisted Agent with an AA in CJ who is running a central system fraud case revolving around a defective F-22 part.

I guess the best way to put ir is that you need to study HOW YOU LEARN because you may need to learn a lot, about something incredibly technical in a very short time.

My first case was a multimillion dollar services fraud case. I had to learn the entitr air force Contracting process, contracting oversight process and QA process before I could start to understand what needed to be done. And the money being taken was still going away the whole time I was figuring it out. It was like watching a pool drain while you are reading instructions on how the pool should have ben made, then the directions on constructing a plug, then having to get other people to help with the plug.

Flexibility and the ability to learn are huge here.

Nope - I applied under the last batch along with everyone else... I actually forgot I even applied to this for a short time, LOL.

                • I have not heard anything back yet regarding the last announcement. It is the end of the fiscal year as well, so who knows, maybe they won't start working on ours until October. I emailed them and they said not to worry about the hiring freeze for now, cause OSI application will time months to complete anyway.

The more I read about OSI though, the more I want it :P

                  • The other day I was talking to my friends about the Air Force bases, one guys mentioned Eglin AFB in FL, what do you guys know about this place? Is this a good base for OSI agents to work at? what about the community, cost of living, local people and neighborhood? From the google map, it looks like it's far from everywhere in FL. Any OSI agents or military personnel that have personal experience with this place?

Also, has anyone heard anything about their application status?

I submitted all of my stuff for that last opening too. Haven't gotten so much as a confirmation e-mail. I figured I just didn't make the cut. Gotta love Federal hiring processes.

Saint, I wouldn't worry about that since you already know how the federal process works (although I feel like AF is better than most). I talked to a friend who used to be active duty CI and he said OSI is pretty competitive, only 4-5 out of 100 would make the cut. That's discouraging.

Anyone know what kind of skills they are looking for? For example, computer, but what exactly? Maintaining networks? Cyber security? I have a couple of foreign languages and military service, but that doesn't make a competitive candidate anymore. Any ideas folks? Thanks
