Anyone put in for the recent DOE 1811 vacancies in DC? Anyone have any info on how many they may be hiring or any other info on the position? They're hiring at the 9/11 level, so I'm wondering what the quals of the applicants look like.

I put in for it too. I doubt I'll see any movement because I'm not in the D.C. commuting area, but we shall see.

I don't think it matters for this one where you currently live. At least, I dont recall seeing "local commuting area" on the announcement I applied under. I applied as a status candidate though. I don't recall if there was a public announcement or not???

Different agency. Department of Energy is the one I applied for. You applied for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (which, I also applied for in my local commuting area).

Worked with two DOE SA on an enforcement action.
DOE has few former USSS at HQ.
The two agents I know are your standard fraud investigators, business/accounting background and time with some 3 letter agency or other IG.
There are maybe 40 agents nationwide. Field offices are made up of 3-6 agents and an ASAC. I think they have 6 Field Offices. They have 3 SACs in the field and a deputy IG and an ASAC at HQ.

HQ agents fall into two basic groups; computer geeks or hot line agents (call screeners). I would estimate this hiring will be for 2-4 agents. Remember that is almost 10% of the total field agent total.

                Good Luck

                Let’s break it down, 3 or 4 GS-15, 7 GS-14, and 30 or so field (GS-9 through GS-13) agents.
                Small, but not the smallest.

Thanks for the info! I'm not a computer geek, so what do the hotline agents do day-to-day? Any idea? I'd assume the call screening is complaints that need investigation? Would they actually do the follow-up?

I come from a local investigative background...
