Im starting to apply to different law enforcement agencies through the midatlantic region.I have the basic question of how bad my stupidity as a teenager is going to hurt me now. First I will be graduating in may from a 4 year institution with a degree in physics and a minor in CJ. Thats the good part, now the bad. The biggest set back i have with departments is that when I was 17 i got a reckless driving ticket. I was young, dumb, had a fast car, and a beautiful girl next to me that apparently had my hormones in a grip. That will be 4 years ago in may. I understand some departments have a set time that has to pass for these, most are 3 years, but how bad will it hurt for the ones who dont auto dq for the ticket. Second a year ago a got a HOV lane violation. It was the first time I had ever driven near DC and on 66 hov was 2 person and then i got onto 95 and it was 3 there. I realized as soon as I got on and took he next exit to get back onto the regular lane and what do you know.... a state police HOV checkpoint. When I was 17 i stole a pair of cufflinks from the mall (a little bit of peer presure i shouldnt of given into), but about an hour after i stole them I felt so guilty for taking them I went back and just set them back on the counter, wasnt caught for that. Freshman year of college i took a hit of weed, burned my throat hated it and never did it again. And the last thing, about a year ago i got a speeding ticket, but it was dismissed for successful completion of dip class. I understand it some of this does look bad and I want a honest opinion on how bad some of these things will hurt. I know the two biggest things are the reckless driving and the cufflinks.
