  • Immigration Services Officer

Does anyone have any information on the DHS vacancies for Immigration Services Officer? I see that the position offered is under the office of Citizenship and Immigration Services. The position is listed as a GS-1801, and seems to be mainly offered in large cities. I currently work for the BOP and I'm looking to move on. I want to become an 1811 (HSI/ICE), but would be interested in getting out of prison sooner than later. Is this a law enforcement position?

    Thanks
    ATF 1811 SA
    Applied - 10/13/09

    CBPO (GEO - Philadelphia)
    Written Test - 5/11/09
    NOR (87) - 6/10/09

    ICE IEA (GEO - Philadelphia)

    NOR (88.9) - 6/22/09

    ICE 1811 SA
    Written Test - 7/28/09
    Written - Passed - 8/10/09

I don't know much about the position, but I'm pretty sure it isn't a LE spot.

          Not LE

I believe this position was formerly known as an Immigration Information Officer (IIO), which went up to a GS-8 and an Adjudications Officer which went up to a GS-12. The IIO served the purpose of dealing with non-immigrants, immigrants, and naturalized at a counter to give them information pertaining to forms to filed in order to obtain a visa, petition for a family member, obtain a green card, or naturalize. The AO's responsibilty was to review the paperwork for fraud purposes and correctness, then interview. They made the final decision on the I-485s and N-400s. These 2 positions, from what I know, were mbouterged to form the Immigration Services Officer position you are inquiring about.

I worked as a GS-4 IIO while in college. Good as a foot in the door, but definitely not the career for me.

Yeah I didn't know if 1801 positions were LE positions. Guess I'll ride it out with the BOP for a little........chasing that 13!
