Anybody hear anything from the 2010 vacancy announcement yet?

Good luck to all who applied.

"Between you and every goal that you wish to achieve, there is a series of obstacles, and the bigger the goal, the bigger the obstacles. Your decision to be, have and do something out of the ordinary entails facing difficulties and challenges that are out of the ordinary as well. Sometimes your greatest asset is simply your ability to stay with it longer than anyone else."

Are you talking about the posting that closed in April of 2010? I applied for that and never heard anything.

That's the one. It's been quiet.

Nope, heard they were collecting apps but no one in the field had an idea why.

I may call the HR number posted under the announcement. Thoughts?

            Don't bother calling.
DCIS is in absolute turmoil right now. A hiring freeze is pretty much in effect, with even GS-15 SACs and ASAC position being unfilled.
The budget is being cut back to 2008 levels, operation travel is severly curtailed, cases are being closed. Pay is frozen for the next 2 years, minimum.
We are hunkering down for the long haul.

Are all DOD agencies' budget shot to crap? Or is it just DCIS? Currently in the running for NCIS and was wondering if they are also affected by the budget cuts.....

Excellent. We filled some holes out in the Field about that time while competing with HQ who is still trying to fill a bunch of vacancies there.

That was a big boondoggle announcement last year. We all knew that of the over 5,000 applications received (it was more, but the system crashed after hitting the 5,000 mark, so who knows how many were actually received), a small percentage would actually meet the minimum qualifications. Of those minimally qualified, a smaller percentage would actually meet the needs. Would be interesting to know just how many that was.

If you are interested in DCIS, just follow the past advice that has been posted here - Work in a job that has a working relationship with DCIS, be great at that job, and build relationships within DCIS. Once it is known that you are interested, qualified and play well with others, you have a BIG leg up on your competition.
