  • Getting a foot in the door...

Is it worth the time of applying for non-LE positions to just get a foot in the door. Such as a Sector Enforcement Specialist or an Investigative Assistant.

Is it worth applying for these jobs so you can have a better shot at other positions when they come open?

I thought I might apply for these positions along with others as they came open.

    It certainly couldn't hurt.

Armored Car services, Armed/Unarmed Security companies, Non-Sworn Corrections, Internships....... Lots of possibilities for you. You need not be restricted to only the military or college; although they are great advantages in of themselves.

    Good luck to you.

Right, I almost have my degree and have been a cop for 3 years. However, I am willing to do what it takes to get a job like Intelligence Research or ICE 1811. Even if that means stepping down to step back up.

Whoops, my bad. I didn't view your profile before posting. I see you're a reserve officer. I was under the impression you were trying to come in for your first position.

haha it's cool. In fact that is pretty old, I am a full time officer now. I just thought getting on period might help me get into an agent position with BP or ICE or even Customs, if I applied for the agent positions when they came open.

Do you want to get into Federal LEO? Start with any agency that has announcements out. Look at www.usajobs.gov By presidential mandate all federal agencies have to post jobs in there. If you are a veteran there are ways to make job announcements show that are not public.
GOD IS A NINJA WITH A SNIPER RIFLE, WAITING TO TAKE YOU OUT.

Depends on what your goal is. If you're trying to get a fed job to stop the clock it would need to be an LEO covered position, ie 1811, Border Patrol, CBP. Otherwise stick with what your doing and keep applying, there isn't a magic formula for the right type of experience. Fed LEO's come from every type of background imaginable. Sounds like you are on the right track, a B.A. and law enforcement experience at any level will make you competitive for most 1811 positions.
