  • Currently in backgrounds now (Region 9). Had my background interview last week at my HR building and also got an email from DHS HQ as well. Investigator has already started contacting my references.

EDIT: Im not sure which clearance lvl im being evaluated for. The CJO stated it was Secret Clearance required however BI said it was for Top Secret Clearance.

HR building? As in the HR building for your current employer?

My BI said the same thing. The reason why they say it is because on their end, all they know is they are conducting a Tier V (SSBI) background. Majority of those get TS clearances out of it. But remember CBP does a Tier V but they don’t get a clearance. The actual you get depends on the job and need to know. For FPS, I was told by my personnel specialist that I was granted a “Secret SSBI” clearance.

  • Sheriff33 yes! I even got paid for the 2 hours I was there for it by my employer (Im currently BOP). Im assuming its because its all fed government dealings.

I was told it would “speed up the process to a degree.” I think FLETC is the big bottleneck right now.

                • Hello, I’ve been following this page for a few years now. Thought I would give my experience. I attended the virtual job fair in August of 2020. A few hiccups along the way and emails not getting to me, I finally took the writing test in February of 2021, and the other test a month after that. (Maybe vi versa). I had a virtual interview in July of 2021. I received a tentative offer letter for Region 7 around the October timeframe. I never heard anything back so did some reaching out. A few more hiccups, and was scheduled for medical and UA in January of 2022. Passed, and didn’t hear anything back. Sent a few more hiccups and was told my spot I was offered was now gone. ( out of my hands and couldn’t tell you why). I was told to stand by for a new field office as their was a few hiccups during that time frame. Fast forward to this month of July 2022, and was told I’m next in line and found a new field office in region 6. However…… lol, they are not sure if I have seat in the next class / it may be already full smh. So May have to wait until next year. At which my medical and UA will all have to be redone. Lol so we shall see. All I know, is I’ve been very patient and very consistent. So hopefully it pays off.

Sheriff33, if you don’t mind me asking, would you share your timeline up to receiving your TJO? I am currently waiting for my TJO and have not heard anything since 04/25. Thank you.

                • BI reached out to schedule a 2nd background interview to go over “additional information”. Is this common with FPS? I know other DHS agencies do this to applicants.

I think they usually call you, at least that’s been my experience. A second interview is a common part of the process with most agencies if they develop additional information that needs clarified, like employment dates are wrong, there’s a credit account that needs explained, or anything else that needs clarification.

I was under the impression most districts work when the federal buildings are open for business M-F 8-5, weekends and holidays off. Is that not the case?

That would be nice. I'd thought I'd ask to see if they did panama schedules or traditional M-F 8-5. As well as any overtime opportunities. I'm currently BOP and we're on 4/12s with 3 days off.
