  • Federal Protective Service K 9 Who is interviewing ?

I recieved two interviews. I just finished an Acadamy not to long ago. Took the job to get the heck out of CBP . I was at end of my rope clerking . Both these spots would get me closer to home. I know FPS is a great job all around .

I recieved a letter stating I was qualified and was being referred to the selecting officials. I wish I can get an interview with them. I would love to get the job. What academy did you finish?

I have two interviews . I was a bit surprized because I sent the wrong resume. Nothing wrong with it ,but it was just a ruff draft . I cannot remember how many areas were open ,do you ? I wish I had sent the resume that I had wanted but I guess I have the interview. We shall see. I don`t know the time frames if all the calls for interviews have gone out. I am surprized there is not much interest in the thread here . Good luck to you maybe some areas have yet to move forward.

I applied for all 7 locations and got an email on June 1st, saying I was referred to each location (MD, DC, MA, WA, NY, NJ, & IA) for a GS-9 position. I have only been interviewed at WA and NY so far. I was told that each location has only 20 days from when they get the list of applicants to make the selection and send back the results. I had my interview for WA on June 10th, and an interview for NY on June 16th. I’m guessing that the other locations narrowed down the list before they conducted interviews. That is all I know, and waiting patiently for some more word. Background is 6 years USMC, 4 yrs LE, 2 yrs FLE, current explosive detector dog handler for USMC, and finishing thesis for Masters Degree.

For what it's worth. I applied for DC, Baltimore, and Des Moines. I had my phone interview with Des Moines on the 22nd of June. I haven't heard a word from DC or Baltimore. My background is 9 years USAF K-9 and 9 years as a civilian LEO. Two of my civilian LEO years were K-9 as well I guess all that's left is the waiting.

It appears that everybody is very highly qualified . As I said I received two interviews . I did the application last minute and was surprised at a response. With that said you do have to wonder why you are selected in one area and not another.
Without going into details on the interviews here are some thoughts .
If you were an outsider listing to the interviews after the fact you would have no idea that they were for the same job or even the same Agency .

It was open from April to May. Closed out on the 22nd or somewhere close to that date. Has anyone that has interviewed heard when they will be making their final decisions?

Like I posted above, informed that I was qualified, but I have not heard anything yet. I applied to the Newark position and judging from DOD/NC City Cop. Probably will not hear anything since the 20 days are up. the announcement did say that they would use it for future position openings so I have hope that in the new fiscal year maybe I will get a call. If anybody on this thread picks up a position, keep us updated on the training and lifestyle of the FPS K-9 handler. Good luck to all.

No news to report here. I haven’t been called for an interview at any field office other than NY and WA (which I am grateful for). I called today to see if any word from the interviews would be coming soon. I was told that the interview results were submitted to HQ, and they will be notifying soon. I remember I asked in the interview what the timeline of events would be for the hiring process, and it sounded like they wanted to fill position before the end of the year. They said the training schedule would consist of 1 week of FPS pre-basic, 12 weeks at FLETC (UPTP), 2 weeks of FPS post-basic, 6 weeks at Physical Security Specialist School, 12 weeks of FTO training at the field office, and last would be 10 weeks of k-9 school. Total amount of training would be around 43 weeks. Did anybody else hear differently?

                            That's it in a nutshell....

Just an FYI..... Not only will you guys/gals be doing K-9 functions in your Districts/assigned areas....you will also be doing Physical Security Inspections.....

Number of inspections will be dermined by boss and how many inspectors you have in your assigned area.....

I just found out they gave the Des Moines K-9 position to somebody already employed with FPS. I had a feeling that was going to happen. Hiring within makes sense. Especially since they are already certified through FLETC. Oh well, time to press on!
