If you high student loan debt and with a modest income, you may be able to use the Income Based Student Loan Repayment program. It would allow you to have smaller payments on your student loans. Usually it's 10% of your monthly taxable income, but if you are supporting a wife and 3 kids, it may be dropped to 2-6% of monthly income. After 10 years of work in the a non-profit or gov job, you can use the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program to forgive the remaining debt.

To use this program it must be federally backed student loans and high debt. You can read more about it at www.ibrinfo.org.

Well said, Jarhead. For me, having bills and wanting time with my family, and having a primary job that pays my bills rather nicely, the reserve deputy gig was a really sweet compromise.
Sure, that badge will get you midgets, but those midgets will get that badge!
