Advice for the younger readers of this site

As I have been going though the process of hopefully getting in to law enforcement I have realized something: I never ever should have done drugs ever. Whenever I have had to explain to someone my experimental marijuana use, I feel like an idiot. I don't know how much a small usage effects my chance of getting a job, but when I am competing against others and this comes up, I can't help but think it matters. I know most departments seem to be ok with very limited experimental use, but just say no. I know it is a lame old saying, and you want to do what your friends are doing but it isn't worth it.

While it's a nice notion, I don't think the majority of adolescents today read cop forums, or even care about being a cop one day. It's usually later, as you grow up and decide you need a job in the near future, that you finally think about what you do (and sometimes that's too late).

If your marijuana usage was only experimental, it won't hold you back (so long as it wasn't anything more than experimental usage, or other harder drugs).
