I read on other posts that they prefer to hire people who are applying within their present region? Just wondering how accurate that is because I would think that if you apply elsewhere, you're interested in that area anyway...
For instance, I live in MD, but am not staying here. I would LOVE to go to the NM/AZ/WTX region...but I don't live there now.

They did change it from a phone lottery to an e-mail lottery for the info. session invites, but yeah, based on the current regional processes, I don't see why the Marshals service would then followup with a nationwide process. They're hiring by regions so they can be reasonably certain an applicant would accept an offer within the region they're hiring within.

I think a lot of folks agree with USMC0844 on the initial hiring hurdle. My guess is the relatively smaller agencies (ATF who apparently canceled one of their most recent announcements because they just couldn't process the volume of applicants, and the Marshals with their lottery approach) don't have the HR infrastructure the FBI, DEA, and Secret Service have to process the huge applicant pool the economy has dumped on law enforcement. I know a guy who gave up on applying for a recent EPA 1811 position because the fax line was busy for two days straight.

On one of the other sites there is a long thread with people in the process. Basically when you spoke with the recruiter, he gave you a phone number for a specific region. On X day at X time the phone number would open and you would have to call in and reserve a spot in a recruiting session. People were taking two days off work and hitting redial the whole time. They would take the first 150 people to get through. Those folks would go to the session with all their paperwork and do a pre-interview. If they passed there, they were scheduled for testing and the process began. Seems like a very inefficient way of hiring. What if the McDonald's crew is the first to get through while real LEOs are working? Anyway, the regions all opened at different times, so it may be that they were going to have one in you area. The Tennessee session in Knoxville was one of the first session and I knew a bunch of people in that one that are currently undergoing pre-employment processing.

Yeah man. Have you been periodically checking the Marshals site? You missed the boat on this. Almost every region has opened up thus far. I believe there is only one region left to open.
