Perhaps, I still have a chance. I have limited investigations experience, I think that's what may push me out. Best to everyone!
Blows my mind how they are advertising for a developmental position and you wouldn't get referred with quals like that. I wouldn't think that having limited investigative experience would be an issue with this announcement.

    • This is going to a very SLOW rejection process!

      • Looks like notifications for different locations are still getting sent out a different paces. I got the referral notice for RI two days ago, and just got one for Norfolk an hour ago.

You should go look over the application you submitted, maybe you selected a wrong answer or something.

Can someone who has been through the process before, give the progression steps for applying to NCIS. Most agencies usually start with an exam, however some applicants are receiving security questionnaires this early in process.

                        Thanks,

                          Thanks,
Sgt_Jon posted this a few pages back in the thread, but basically NCIS doesn't have a written test anymore. Applicants get a packet of stuff to fill out, they do a panel interview at a field office, they take a physical, a polygraph, and we do a suitability investigation (on top of an OPM SSBI investigation if the applicant doesn't have one). I'm not in the hiring process and it's been a while since I went through, but I believe that's roughly the order.

As far as rhyme or reason, I have NO clue how NCIS does their hiring. It seems about 1/3 are former military, 1/3 former LEOs, and 1/3 had an "in" of some sort of in (dad's the director, did an internship, etc.) We have some people with very impressive backgrounds, some who were hired with no work experience, and a lot of folks in the middle.

I was referred to FL last week and received the security questionnaire yesterday. I also was referred to VA today. 10 pt vet and current fed leo.

My friend got the email for VA today but he is just a fed leo with a degree, not a vet. They must go strictly on resume and answers on the application but who knows!

                            Good luck all!

                              Spot on.

Understand that unlike some other agencies- this one does not have a huge HR office to field a million calls and emails- not only are they doing staffing & placement, they have to attend to current employees.

Just because Bob got something today and you didn’t does not mean something is “up”, it may be that they haven’t gotten to you yet. You may be covered by one specialist while the next guy has someone else.

When it comes to balancing why Applicant 435 got on with “just” as BA in Art and no LE experience while Applicant 129 with a PhD, seven languages, ninja skills and seven years as an 1811 didn’t- unless you were on the board, you simply won’t know.

The questionnaire is one of several security centric things you will do. Lest you expect it to happen in succinct order I will just say this- they will send you a bunch of paperwork which needs to be completed. An investigator will meet with you and your field references. They will review your package and address any issues.

If selected- they will give you an entrance on duty (EOD) date and place. You show up looking nice and ready to learn. Depending on the timing you will have some mandatory stuff that must be done before FLETC- both agency specific and Navy~ ID car, travel card, new employee training, etc, etc, etc. The office will guide you through it.
