    West University Place (pop. 14,211) is an urban enclave community surrounded by the Cities of Houston, Bellaire and Southside Place. “West U” is situated on 2 square miles near Rice University, almost exclusively single family residential with some retail and light commercial. Well known for its tree-lined streets, beautiful homes and sense of community, West University Place affords its citizens superior municipal services and a high quality of life. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Police Chief will participate as a member of the city’s executive team and provide leadership to a department of 25 officers and ten non-sworn employees.

    The City seeks an experienced, visionary law enforcement professional who is committed to customer service, community interaction and exemplary professional standards. Outstanding leadership and administrative skills, exceptional oral and written communications ability, and unquestioned personal and professional ethics are sought.

    Requires a minimum of five years progressively responsible municipal law enforcement experience including a minimum of four years supervisory and/or management experience. Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, business, public administration or a related field (graduate degree preferred) and a minimum of Intermediate certification from TCLEOSE, or eligibility to obtain Texas peace officer status is required. Completion of the FBI National Academy or similar advanced training is preferred. Salary range from $73,437 to 98,406 DOQ (mid-point $85,291) with auto allowance and full range of competitive benefits.
