Rugged Tablets As Squad Computers

I am most familiar with Panasonic Toughbooks in squad cars, but I realize that there are other brands out there, as well. Anyway, does anybody here happen to know of any agency that has tried using any sort of tablet computers in squad cars? I realize that there are some rugged tablets on the market and I was thinking that if you had a car mount with a keyboard that stayed in the car, but allowed the tablet to come out of the vehicle, it may have some applications for police work. On a recent medical, I noted paramedics with a rugged tablet and in the field for police work a tablet could be handy for taking information on a report, etc.
